Where we are so close to DE that we do all our shopping there to avoid the 6% MD sales tax!! I often thought that if the state representatives cared even a little about the business owners in the MD counties that border DE, they would have a lower sales tax rate for those counties to discourage people from going to DE to shop. Salem County in NJ has this set up (or at least they used to) to keep people from making the trip across the bridge to DE. But it is well known that our state and federal leaders really only care about three or four of the voting districts in the state, Balt City, Balt county, Howard and Montgomery counties.

And close enough to PA that it makes a short trip to get tax free coal at a reasonable price also!!

This has been one of the milder winters since I moved here in '92. I think one of the winters in the late '90's was even warmer, can't specifically remember the year. I was burning mostly wood then and I remember not going through half of what I had split for the winter and only used about a half ton of coal. I love these mild winters!!!

We do the same thing in MA. NH has ZERO sales tax - MA has 6.25% ( recently hiked from 5%, thanks democrats ). But you'll probably get a ticket on the way negating any savings. Better to stay home & buy online ... although we can't get liquor, firearms, ammo, or parts of ammo shipped to MA. Stupid state this is ....

At least we were successful in getting the liquor tax repealed. Want to piss off MA people enough to start a war? Take away their booze.

Secession has been discussed a time or two by us forgotten counties east of the Bay. If it wasn't for Joe Biden calling it home, I wouldn't mind if DE just absorbed everything on the eastern shore from the Susquehanna eastward. I am pretty sure the only thing our gov knows about the eastern shore is bridge tolls bring in lots of $$ and that Ocean City sends a lot of tax dollars his way with summer vacation business. I'd bet he doesn't even know the names of half the counties over here.

I forgot about AA county being in the list of important folk come election time. I think it was in the last election for governor, all MD counties except those went 5 went to Ehrlich by a wide margin but he still lost the race in a landslide. You can guess where the majority of state money gets spent! For example, they just pushed a bridge toll hike through up here in Cecil/Harford county that will be paying for a road in Howard county. The people that are on that tolling authority (I forget the name) aren't even elected, but appointed by the parasites that will get the money from up here to spend in their districts.

Our state legislature is in session now. It's a 90 day session. Anything is possible. We've got a 6% sales tax now. Governor has suggested making it 7%. We've got a 9% tax on alcohol. They are planning to raise our state gas tax .15 per gallon. We've got a "flush tax." I'm on my own septic system and the state makes me pay to use it. They are tripling that tax. Last week they started talking about an app tax. Any apps you buy or music you download, they are going to tax it. Our tolls were just increased but a few bucks each. Today they suggested a sales tax on gas. They also want to charge a tax on most services. Not attorneys though. Go figure.
