The Department of Education at work

The Department of Education at work

With the Department of Education, an entity of the Federal Government, we have the smartest kids in history.

I was wrong. Government DOES work. Obama '13.

Smitty, what are you implying that these children got that smart in just three short years? I think not.

Pretty sad isn't it? :( What 3 short years???? They've been the longest 3 yrs I've experienced in my lifetime that have consistently been on a steady down-hill run.

Well Smitty in a back door sort of way implied it was Obama & he should be re-elected in 13, then again maybe I took it wrong but those kids aren't smart enough to forget everything they should have been taught before Obama. It gets even worse, in a third year college level class the teacher asked the older class auditors were asked not to say anything, & then she asked where Custer's Last Stand was, only one kid said anything & it was that there are still plenty of Custard Stands around, & he was dead serious & none of the others burst into laughter, none had a clue. We got to get away from being afraid of hurting someones feelings & allowing teachers to learn how to teach & stay out of it.

Yeah you all took it wrong. Only reason I mentioned Obama is because he wants to GROW government to the largest levels ever in the history of our nation.

So I guess you can't figure this out, so I have to spell it out for you:

GOVERNMENT SHOULD GET THE HELL OUT OF EDUCATION, and every other aspect of our lives. If they can't even operate a postal service ... or Amtrak ... is it any wonder kids are so friggin dumb????

It's all part of the plan, Smitty. History is being rewritten as we speak and the "dumbing down" of America is well underway. Teddy Roosevelt was an early "Progressive" and Woodrow Wilson got the ball rolling.

The decline of our education system can be directly tied to the creation of the Federal Dept of Education under another liberal Democrat, Jimmy Carter. It's pretty common knowledge, at least in my circles, the Dept Of Education was formed as payback for the teacher unions getting him elected. Before that education was a state issue and the locals took care of everything concerning education as they should per the Constitution. I remember moving to GA from IA prior to the Dept of Education coming into existence. The quality of schools was a big concern of my parents - not so much now because of the standardization learning or lack of learning directed by the Federal Government. I know I got screwed over with the new newfangled "new math" and "see, speak, spell" reading method. What a joke!

OK Smitty, sorry about taking you wrong, in reality he is the only Pres. that I heard of lately that even wants to try to give teachers the freedom to teach. It's like anything else the Gov. gets into it started as a way to standardize subjects being taught & texts used & then morphed out of control, that seems to be the standard with every change in control someone wants to change something that may or may not be working but it always seems to change for the worse.

A great argument for smaller government Sam. That's all we want. Common sense back into society. Remember those days? I'm not that old & I even remember ...

Sad,VERY sad. I wonder what kind of grades these students get on their report cards? Is it really the school's fault or the parents not pushing these students to do better. I know for sure that there are still many good teachers out there that really try to to teach these kids, are the parents helping out? The old saying, you can lead a horse to water,,,,, Who's to blame? :gee:

I may be wrong I no longer have school age kids around much but it seems like there is a big difference from one school district or area to another. Perhaps the local school boards have too much power but it almost seems like they teach from a certain point in history rather than including early history much like the Amish around here they start around Hitlers time & don't know anything before. The local schools here where I now live seem to cover more than the Pittsburgh area schools, I'm not sure but from what I have observed it seems to be the case. Soon if there would be a long term power disruption after the battery back-ups run down people will be lost & starving to death in the dark.

Since "No Child Left with a Dime"...oops, sorry, "Left Behind", the schools teach to the test. That is all. If the test scores go down, the district loses money and the teachers pensions don't get funded.

Schools 20 years ago were a joke, now they are a cruel joke.

How long have you been out of school Jpete? There are a lot of what I believe are intelligent individuals here that probably came out of your "joke" schools.
