Not an issue now, but I'm looking 20 years into the future when I'm in my 70s. My coal furnace is in my basement, works great. Currently I just dump my ashes into a large galvanized trash can & when 2/3 full I hump it up the stairs to dump on my driveway. Like the exercise. However I'm wondering if anybody knows of or has a VERY large capacity vacuum system, one that will suck out my entire ash pan when full or firebox (when cold) that takes ash & unburned chunks to a collection container outside the house to at least eliminate the stair work when I'm older. This would have to be a professional installation I"m sure, but I"m just trying to get a feel for what's out there at present.
Thank you in advance.

Do a search on DUST COLLECTORS, you might be able to modify a Woodworking one for use with the ash, just exhaust it outside into a pile or container or something.
here is one thread that its been talked about.
Ash Removal With a Dust Collector?
You can probably get one pretty cheap at like Harbor Freight and use some PVC pipe or galvanized pipe to run outside.

I'm hoping my son man's up and starts taking care of the stove when I'm that old. At best I can get him to bring coal into the house with whining and I can get it him to transfer ash from the galvanized trash can outside to bags so they can be taken to the dump. Beyond that, he does nothing else besides whine. God knows at the rate this country is going he'll never be able to move out of the house.

How about an auger? That's the way they did it many building and larger homes.
