......sure the damned rig WILL burn coal anyway? Just because it says: 'I'm a coal stove': doesn't mean one heck of a lot. Some stoves just plain don't work well......AKA 'JUNK.' Love that slick advertizing, though, nice pics. Someone take over another stove THAT IS a real coal stove and not one that says it is. If 100 users post that they can make it work, reliability...then I'm all ears. We olde timers have an expression that is befitting this situation:"Don't flog a dead horse!"

Hey now...
Cabin fever kickin in... ;)
The Newcastle in the link I set has been around for quite a while...
Not in coal years...
But mid 70's...
It does burn Nut Coal quite nicely...
Holds about 45 pounds...
People who use the stove will attest to the stove...
And yes more than 100 0f them exist...
The 'slick' is from the 70's...
Parts can still be had at the store...
But I think the OP has a different stove due to the oval grate...

I'd say cut down the air until you are almost with a problem of the fire going out. Then move up from there...

If it does not have a shaker grate, then it isn't designed for a serious user. The 80 year old Glenwoods have a shaker grate, and every other old stove has on. My point is not to rattle your cage, be lets face it, it is difficult to learn to burn, but I have a 1919 Glenwood # 14 stove that I could teach a kid to fire in 5 minutes. and to have a HOT fire for 16 hrs with absolutely no experience. I have a few old hand feds I burn in, too. If it won't burn 12 hrs on a fill AND still have enough coals to start a hot new fire, I will 'Park It' somewhere dark and dusty. I have converted 6 new burners this season, and each one tried a hand fed and was impressed, and 3 have now changed up to stoker units from LL, Keystoker and Alaska. My point is that if you make the journey too difficult, people will turn to other sources. If you want it to be a 'pretty stove' for the pretty people, don't complain about it not working well. My .02 says these folks will go to pellets simply because this is too big a PITA.

Someone take over a Chubby, set it up and watch them smile!.....or a Keystoker stoker...or a LL stoker....or an alaska stoker.....even a Harman......

well last night went much better for him he went down to 1/2 turn on each spinner and loaded it with 40lbs. it was still going strong this morning. he may even want to go down to 1/4 on each spinner because it was still very warm in the house 74 on a t-stat that is 30ft away. he is realizing that it must be kept full at all times.

the stove body looks very similar to the link but the door is not as fancy and it has spinners instead of the slide. he is burning blaschack nut.i think he just needs to fine tune now and it will be good to go. he said he could never get wood to produce the heat that he is getting now and he had to load wood every 4 hours

Smaller turn downs on the air at this point...
1/8 of a turn then wait...

Yeah he has the wood burner mentality yet. Load it up all the time, you will not smother an established fire. and cut back on the air, you were probably sending alot of heat up the chimney. Keep fine tuning he will get it.

The older models had spinners...
Very simple metal tag on the back...
'New castle f' was the model tag on a older refurb in the shop...
Iron House still makes and has all the parts for the stove...
