Thanks for the help. I finally got the manometer up and installed. It is hovering around.03 and.04 as the picture shows. Also threw in a picture of the stove set-up as an added bonus. In this economy, everyone likes free.

looks good, you should be checking your draft before your mpd though. that way you can see the draft the stove sees.

other than that looks good :)

Will it matter much if it is after the mpd? I always have it completely open while I am burning coal. The only time that I close it is when I am burning wood. I get wood for free so I could care less if I am being inefficient burning wood.

oh then it doesn't matter, but if you would change it you could close that mpd a little to keep some more heat in the stove ;)

You have that back wards. Closing the MPD is being efficient and saving heat from going up (and out) the chimney. By leaving it wide open with coal, you are wasting allot of heat. As stated, you are being efficient with the wood and wasting heat with the coal.

Nice install. But like it was stated before, close the MPD with coal. Why bother burning wood at all when you have the best solid fuel ever?

Nice install on the manometer. Just wondering what's your rear heat shield is made of? I'm always interested in what other folks have done. I used tin ceiling tiles. Lisa

You might consider doing a *flip-flop*...moving the MPD up and the Mano. connection down.

You would be adding an additional hole above for MPD...and need to plug the extra hole below for the Mano. ;)

might look at that at the end of the season. A flip flop might not be that hard to do. My heat shield is connected to the stove. It is a thin sheet of metal (aluminum???) that sets back from the actual stove about 4 inches. It is connected by a four long bolts.

Does everyone run the mpd fully closed??? I was always told to leave it open for coal, the only adjustment you need for coal is the air going in. Have I been lied too? (wouldn't be the first)

I've never used a manual damper so I have a ?...
With his .03 -.04 draft reading with the damper all the way open will closing the damper help keep any more heat in the stove? It seems that .03 is about as low as I would want to go with a hand fired.

yes you have been lied to  , you have to use some common sense, If they are calling for a 60 degree day leave it open if you have weak draft. some people leave them at a 45 anything is better than open, you are leaving alot of heat go up the chimney. now if you really need to crank the stove you will have to also open it some if its fully closed cause the gasses must be able to get out.

Yes as Eric said you've been lied too. Only on a warm day when chimney draft might be a prob would I keep it open. I open mine to reload and burn gases off for a few minutes but after that it's closed all the way. Mine has an oblong hole in the middle and most others do have by pass holes. If in question close to 45 degrees and see how that works. (you have a CO detector) but if thats ok close it up for the long runs. You'll save allot of heat.
