Ricochets happen when the bullet contacts a flat surface at a low angle i didnt get the protractor out but id say it was close to a 60* angle. Also a small fast bullet is more likely to ricoche, a 45 is a large and relativly slow bullet. As far as shooting close to a road its fine so long as you are not shooting across it. Know your target and what is beyond it.
