PostBy: jkabdoors On: Sun Feb 12, 2012 9:01 am

Good morning everyone my buddy bought a used Harman Stoker, he is having a hard time keeping the fire in front, it seems that the coal is not feeding fast enough. can anyone tell me how to adj the feed rate so the coal can push faster or is something wrong. When he lite it yesterday the flame was in front now this morning the flame is back be the bricks. Thanks Jeff

Well, unless it's calling for heat, the fire will be towards the back when it's on idle. it won't be all the way to the front. There should be about 1" of ash in the front if it's adjusted correctly and calling for heat.

Do you have a thermostat hooked up? Is it calling for heat?

What are you setting on the control box? on/off times.

COAL takes time to respond. It make take an hour or more for it to get really burning good. WHEN you first light it, it has to burn up all the coal until it get ASH in the front, that is normal operation. It will only feed a little bit at a time, depending on the settings on the Controls Box and the demand for heat.

there should be a feed adjustment on the back.

YOu can probably to the the Harmen website and get a manual if you don't have one.

Also, do a search on here or youtube if you need to see what it should look like. Here is one.

As you can see, there is no fire directly in the front.

Sounds like the fork has been forced open. Too wide of a gap between them...shortens the stroke for the pusher block. ;)

And for anyone wanting to do a quick check, the inside measurement of the fork is 1-3/4"...any greater than that indicates that the forks would of have been forced open wider due to a binding pusher block.

Another member had provided this earlier...Thanks :)

Also, make sure the Thermostat is hooked up correctly and working. Otherwise, it will just use the control box.

Yes, the feed fork bent or feed adjustment could be adjusted incorrectly.

also, where does he have it setup? In the living space, basement, etc....

How many dots are you pushing? Do you have a coal-trol hooked to the stove ? Sounds to me that you just have the stove ideling. Do you have the control box set up correctly on the back of the stove? I burnt the mag. last season but i forgot how i had my control box timed out,,,,, :bang:

plug the stoker motor directly into the wall, and turn the feed screw to push three dots. That should take the fire to the front, this will check for a bent fork. Start there making sure the stove can produce heat.
