It was good, but how do the steak houses make the mushrooms and onions soooooo good ? :secret:  :woot: a nice coool bottle of labatt's blue washed it down with some baileys irish cream, now where did I leave my health insurance card.

I have fried mushrooms with onions in butter before, and they are good, but at the steak house, they are fantastic, and their breaded onion too, it must be something with all the grease from the steaks they fry them in. My mother is a fantastic cook, she does meals at chuch and everyone raves about her soup and pot pie, I always say at home it was never as good, at church it sits in that big pot and simmers all day.

the next time you go, ask them how they fry them up. Might be something else they cook with.

Nope, no heart history, I figured it's my responsibility to be the first. Hell WN, if I was to start eating all that healthy stuff, I'd have to start wearing my top teeth just to chew the stuff. --PS--yep, scrapple hog innards & such.

High cholesterol is like a high HP engine. the super feul is carbs not butter. Cut down or eliminate carbs. Statins are waaay more dangerous than high cholesterol. High HO engines need lubricity and that is omegas 1500mg 2X daily. I have high chol. and love butter too. Now if you can get it made from raw milk then ......

A very very small % of cholesterol comes from the food you eat. Less than 10-20% comes from food you eat. In addition, women particularly, are prone to over producing cholesterol if they have a low dietary intake - so much so that they often end up with significantly higher blood ldl cholesterol than they had before reducing dietary cholesterol.

Want to help your heart? Eat a low carb diet especially avoid refined carbs/sugars. Avoid trans-fats. Stick with proteins and fats and eat fish. most importantly exercise.

atherosclerosis is not really influenced by dietary cholesterol or sat. fat intake.

Geeeze....the question wasn't how to live long & be healthy, the question was how do you saute onions & 'shrooms into deliciousness. Just today for lunch I had a shaved steak, cheese & drippy onion sandwich. Just real butter and heat. The secret is vidalia onions and patience. To much heat for too short a time & they aren't the same. A nice medium flame and a frequent gentle stir until the onions are soft & golden brown on the edges.

But, if we are talking health.... didn't you notice the change in butter policy a couple of years ago? Here's 20 good things about butter: http://bodyecology.com/articles/benefit ... butter.php

And, my own personal observation: Milk.. "they" say don't drink whole milk. 2% is better for you, 1% even better, but you really should drink skim. WELL... they make 2%, 1% & skim by removing the fat from whole milk. And then what? Unless they throw that fat away (trust me, they are not) in one way or another, we are consuming it. I don't know how, but if it isn't thrown out, it goes in our mouths. I prefer to have good tasting food and nice rich milk. Maybe I'll only live into my late 80's like my parents, but I'm not going to give up eating the food that gives me energy to work just so I might live to be 91.
