I think they have a hole in their screen. I just bought a pallet of bagged rice 2 weeks ago. There has been 3-6 pieces of nut size in every bag I've used so far. Didn't have a problem with the coal I bought last summer. I have a screen on my hopper to catch these big pieces so it's no big deal.

What did you use for a screen? I looked for some at the hardware store but all the stuff they had was either too big or too small.

If it were a perfect world......No one ever said it was easier to burn coal than oil or gas, so we all step up to the bar and order up a tall glass of "Shut the 'F' Up".
Up here and further beyond, creativity will be the 'Mutha of invention'. The effort to protect your boiler, stove or whatever is called 'Common Sense'. They can try to legislate that out of our world,
but it will be a hard sell to many folks up here. Bob is at the sweet spot, right next to Canada, and further from NEPA than most burning PA Coal. A few nuggets of black gold 850 miles from the 'source' only sharpens the senses, and won't cripple anyone or anything. It's like buying firewood and after ordering 16" cut and split, you get a dozen 18" and an occasional 20" piece. Asking the guys cutting and splitting is the best way to request a 'closer look' on the next order.

I'll bet these comments by users of Blashak or any other brand coal will make it back to the front office daily, but a short note to the companies would be more productive than a 'bashing'.
It's like going to a sand and gravel operation and requesting a load of pea stone....perhaps there was some 3/4 or 1 1/2" stuck in the 6 yd bucket......not an excuse, just an explanation.
Bagging....same thing, the 'bagger' doesn't know what is being supplied to the hopper..... A couple well placed calls will probably get an explanation.
For now: Thanks to the suppliers for getting us next years supply!.....at a fair price. Home Heating Oil is 3.79 and 9/10 today. CASH! .10 more for credit.

I'm not a cheerleader for the 'P and M (piss and moan) Brigade', but I enjoy knowing what others experience too......and do to resolve any issues.

Still raining, 42 DEGREES...and we sure need much more...greening up fast!

I must've had a shitty pallet with all the rocks there. Toward the end of the season, the rocks disappeared, and I was able to finally shake down like normal. The bags are all stacked up in the basement, so it's hard to tell when you've got through a pallet ... but each pallet was stacked consecutively. That's how the rock problem went. About a month later, all was well again.

Sizing I can live with. Wood I can live with - it burns. But rocks ... no f'in' way! Wow did that suck!!!!!!! Hope the rest of my pallets aren't like that. I think my shaker handle can only take one more kick before it busts off.

Apparently 1" screen is a rare item in these parts...the local hardware store only has 1/4" or 1/2" screen.

Did you run the nut through the "breaker" and toss it in the hopper?

Na.......I opened the door and threw them on the grates with the other coal. Imagine not having a screen and dumping in a baseball size chunk.......that would mess things up a bit.

Just filled the hopper with 6 bags.......only 4 total pieces found this time and most were pea size.

Go to the local farm supply or tractor supply store. Get Chicken wire. Standard Chicken fence wire is 1" hex shape openings.

fencing for swimming pools requires 1" opening so maybe a fencing company would have some small left over pieces.
