Apparently 1" screen is a rare item in these parts...the local hardware store only has 1/4" or 1/2" screen.

Did you run the nut through the "breaker" and toss it in the hopper?

Go to the local farm supply or tractor supply store. Get Chicken wire. Standard Chicken fence wire is 1" hex shape openings.

Great idea. Thanks.

I recently finished up last seasons supply of Blaschak and broke into this seasons supply. I've noticed a significant increase in ash. Has anyone else ran into this problem? I'm using a Chubby Sr. and shake down in the am and pm. I've never had a problem with ash until recently. My pan has always been large enough to handle the volume of ash I've been getting. Now there is so much ash it spills over the pan and I have to shovel it out from the bottom of my stove every other day! I know the temperature has dropped some but the increase in coal usage is minimal compared to the increase in ash! At least I think...

I found half a glove in a recent bag of stove coal!! Otherwise, my Blashak coal, both nut and stove varieties, has worked pretty well for me. Since I've never used anything but Blashak, I guess I don't have anything to compare it against.
