Independent Coal Breakers are not the web

PostBy: EnergyManager On: Thu Mar 01, 2012 10:38 pm

It is kinda ashame there is very little history on the web on the Independent Coal Breakers. Growing up in the Minersville area in the 60s I came remember many of independent who provided a living for many after the hey days of the big operators. Breakers such as K&P, Black Health, B&N, Live Oak, Kowlchicks, CLS, Minersville Coal, JAC, Dandos, Ryans, Franklin, Colitz, and many more. It would be nice to see history and pictures of the smaller operations I am little tired of reading about the big boys. It's like reading about IBM, Exxon and Citigroup and not thinking about the Mom and Pop operations that made this country Great. What ever happen to the Independent Coal Miners organization. I remember my father and grandfather got their newsletter in the 60s. Maybe we should write a special interest book on the independents.

This site doesn't pop up on a direct google search for the independent coal miners - I came across it a while ago doing some other coal research.

Well if you're interested you can use the KB here for this, it's used very little but I would love to see a lot of articles posted in it. When I installed it stuff like this was exactly the use I had in mind. It's based on the same software used for Wikipedia so if you're familiar with that you're all set. It's not that hard to use and I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. You can post your questions here:

Knowledge Base Help Desk & FAQ

To use it go here or use the static link above:

In the upper left is link to login, use the username and password you have for the forum. Once logged in you can go right to this link where I have set up a page as template for "live Oak".

Click the edit button and start editing the page. :D Anyone can edit or change what you have written just like Wikipedia. There's revision history for any changes so they won't be lost if someone does change it..

Live Oak Coal Company was designed to process 75 tons/ hour, does not sound like much but when it was in operation there were allot of trucks coming and going. People made a living off one little operation, truck drivers, bootleggers, coal delivery and plant workers. And Live Oak was just one of 15+ Independent Coal Breakers within 10 miles of Minersville. And each had the same story.
