I lost mine when we lost power a while back, probably could have saved it but more worried about the sump getting the water off the floor first. One of the problems of living in a high groundwater area, on the flip side my well most likely will never run dry. Even with GFIs I tend to shy away from electricity while standing in water. :fear: Had the handfired in the garage going strong to keep the wife warm, if only the garage was insluated I'd be in hog heaven out there.

One match since Labor Day. I did shut the power off to the EFM for a brush down, but the fire came back when I turned it back on. Fred will say I don't count because I have one of those new age "stokers", but I think one match in 6 months is still respectable.

One match, since November 29th... out of the 3 years I've had my boiler, this is my longest continuous burn...

I just took a look at the 10 day forecast and based on that I'm out as of Monday. After then, lows shouldn't drop below 45* with highs in the high 60*. I'm tired of fighting for a decent draft. Our house is real tight and it shouldn't need a lot of NG to take the chill off in the morning. On the positive side I already have half the coal I need for next year stacked in my back yard. Take care, Lisa

It does have advantages at times but a long cold winter isn't one of them; at least not this year. Lisa

2 startups .. first one I did an experiment w/firebricks in 1/2 the stove to lower the volume of the stove (that did not work out great --- lasted 2 weeks & had issues with shaking) ... after that, normal stove & no stopping since ..

1 'match' per use - we fire on weekends and holidays... this is the first year I had dry wood to start with, then found a local dealer for blishack - less dust. took the teenager to convince me to run a deeper bed, so better results next morning. thanks to everybody for all of the advice!
