You nor me neither capt. toothy I'm still in. Even with a hopper, you can come close if you don't pay attention. To many think this coal burning is magic, wellll, it ain't. You've got to stay on top of it.

one match from October. this year was weird. house temps are in the 75 to 85 range. i had to use the window damper lots of times. once had all the windows open for half the day just to keep the house at 80. it was 32 out side that day. i all most thought of getting a smaller stove. i said all most. i hope this year will be the last year for the hand fired. finally going to a coal boiler. although i will not sell of the harman just yet. this summer will be the learning curve for the boiler, just for DHW. so if i can keep it running for the summer i should have no problems firing it for the winter. besides i don't want to run in to problems that i have to fix when its cold out side. gremlins are always going to show them self's when you least expect it.

sitting here in shorts and a tee with the window open. man i love coal! :verycool: :smoke:

October 21st until the present. First year burning coal. Sounds like I'm a lucky S.O.B. Had a couple of close calls but still in the club thanks to all of the help found here!

I'm still in, but being a girly man with the AA stoker makes it easy.

This is the first year I have not lost it, or had to use an emergency infusion of charcoal bricquets to save an almost dead fire, so I'm still good. The closest calls have been from cleaning out those corner or whole end dead spots that Harman is famous for. Is Harman the only brand with that problem, or are there others?

I fired up for the first time ever on late October 14th and by the 15th the fire was out. Fired up again on October 16th, and have been running ever since. It's the 2 match club for me.

I'm still in! I almost lost it with the 68* days last week but it slowly came back to life. The long term forecast isn't looking too good cold weather wise so I may be calling it quits for the year mid March. Bummer, it's a good thing coal stores well 'cause I have used less then half of my projected needs for the year. Lisa

I Probably shouldn't post here, since I'm not worthy for the ONE match. :notworthy: BUT, this is my first year with coal - and with it, I've had alot to learn! Next year I'm gonna give it a 100% for lighting it once till end of April :D

I can and do proudly say though, I'm going on 10 or 11 weeks (I've lost count) without loosing a fire!! :flex:

I vote to grant you the first timers honorary Mulligan match. Even though you lost it on day two I think you deserve the full pride of being in the one match club. You've done a super job!
