chimney caps

Thought it would be informative to share with others some of our custom chimney caps that help our stoves with their drafting properties. I didn't want to hijack Oliver Powers barrel top thread, so I started this one.

My koker dealer suggested my chimney cap to deal with constant wind conditions at my location. It was made by a local amish gentleman that does metal fabricating. It is part chimney cap, part wind vane. It rotates based on the wind direction and forces the air flow around the chimney top rather than directly over the termination point. He has sold them to others that had problems with their barometric dampers not being able to keep up with wind generated drafts. On the windiest days this winter, my barometric damper obviously did bounce around (yes, I find it neat to sit and watch it do its thing!!) but my manometer readings never rose, above the set value, more than about .03 in.WC measured at the ash door.
