EFM HELP!

EFM HELP!

PostBy: grobinson2 On: Fri Mar 09, 2012 1:15 pm

If anyone could please help me with hooking up the wiring for an EFM 520 High Boy please shoot me a PM. I have the plumbers here now and can not get a hold of Wilhelm's Heating and apparently Jay is just very busy today (Granted this is not Jay's problem but seriously man next time just say "I am busy" Wow!). I have the manuals and they do not match up with the wiring diagram on the timer assembly. I also called EFM but of course all of there techs are out. If any one could help and send me a PM with your phone number it will go right to my phone and I will call you right back.

Thank you in advance,
Glenn

Well you where told how to do it and video it on your phone with audio how to put the unit together and you have the efm manual showing how to wire it as well as the timer booklet Plus you have a so called plummer there to install it what more do you want 4 calls in one week to my house is enough along with endless calls to the shop you should of got a hold of a plummer that knows how to install a coal fired boiler that can read and follow simple wire diagram .

You call today saying the manual did not show how to wire the timer I told you do not tell me that it is not in there look at it
while I was on the phone with you found the diagram on how to wire it what more do you want you can read right it does have pitchers with a wire diagram .

Good morning guys,
First a big thank you to Rob for taking the time yesterday to try and assist in the 520 install. Ann Marie had a family emergency yesterday so perfectly understandable why she was unavailable. Of course it was unfortunate it was on the day the plumbers were trying to hook up the unit but we don't plan these kinds of things so thats just the way it goes. As for you Jay, I can assure you I wont be calling/PM'ing you any more Sir. I will let your last posted message speak for it's self. We all have our personal deficiencies or problems and I sincerely hope you are able to work with/through the ones that are effecting your sunny disposition.

As far as the boiler install goes the issue that we/the plumbers ran into was that the diagram on the timer box did not match up with the diagram in the EFM manual. While they both showed four posts the posts were labeled differently. We ended up frying an aqustat and did have one cope sodder joint leak a little but other then that the system worked fairly well. Last night my fathers basketball team was in the Div. III Sweet Sixteen so I had to put he project on hold until this coming week after work.

I did have a question about where the auger goes into the unit. It appeared that I was getting some coal gas out that spot where you have the three bolts. Should I put boiler puddy around there or is that meant to breath?

Thanks again guys and I will keep you updated,
Glenn

There is supposed to be a piece of rope gasket around the auger, it gets sandwiched between the 3-holed flange and the base. EFM mentions it in the manual, but it is easily passed over. From page 4, step 5 of "To Install Stoker":

"Screw the coal pipe collar to the side of the base using the screws and rope packing provided."

I believe I used a single loop of 5/8" gasket rope, but I'm not positive on the size (it was just a scrap piece I had laying around). Use your own judgement and get a piece of gasket rope that gets slightly squished when you snug up those three bolts.

Rob,
Yep I looked right over that part. Ann Marie even had that with the stoker and it went in the "extra parts" pile. hehe... Of course I knew to put the one around the loading/view door but as said I over looked the one around the auger. I will fix that now.

Thanks again,
Glenn

Good evening Guys,
Here are some pics of the 520 Highboy. Water system is all hooked up and working properly. Burner had a couple of issues but they were minor and I think I have them fixed. Got the rope gasket around the auger clamp/exit port and there was some air getting in around the ash pan door and that was taken care of by just adjusting the latch screw. I am using a temporary coal bin/drum that is out side of the house which will be replaced by a 5 ton coal bin attached to the house. Friday will be my first day off work and I will address the very very small leak that I have on the right side of the domestic hot water plate and I will be firing up the boiler for good this time hopefully. :)

Thanks again,
Glenn

PS-No Steve and Ann Marie did not paint the boiler with grifetie! I could not get my silver paint to work when we were about to put on the insulation and all I had was hi temp black so I thought I would put our initials and install date. I hopefully wont see that writing very often.

It looks like the coil plate was altered to install an aquastat? Do you have room in the rear to clean the flue pipe?

In the rear of the unit I have a T and a plug in the bottom of it so that I can clean the flue pipe, yes. As for the coil plate, why would this have been done? It was not done on my end...

Thanks again,
Glenn

Do you have enough clearance to pull the panel off the rear of the base and brush out the tubes?
