Ever see the 1 ton extended cab 4 X 4 trucks running 9 second 1/4 mile times, making 1,000 + horsepower. Diesel fuel per gallon has more energy that a gallon of gasoline.http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=fvwp&v=bt8w3qlzZhs

There was a Diesel entry at Indy for a few years back in the 40's (Cummins I believe). Middle of the pack at best.

This one "kind of" burned diesel. Kerosene anyway. :D

Just curious how you knew this. Was it aired live or were you there? My father is watching it on TV now.

That was incredible. As someone mentioned, don't let the EPA see this.

That 1967 jet powered Indy car was the very thing that began my never ending interest in the Indy 500. I have 4 tickets at the entrance to turn 3 that I renew every year.

Just about the best seats in the house.

I was at the first Brickyard NASCAR race and we sat on the inside of pit road about 8 or 10 pits in.

We were right behind Kyle Petty's "Melo Yellow" pit.

Not a good place to see a race. :)

There used to be a couple of jet engine powered drag cars back in the 70s, put on quite a show.

It was live and since I don't have a TV I watched some of it on my computer via Justin.TV, and I also tracked it through the ALMS (American LeMans Series) website, which had radio and live in car video and an automatically updating by lap running race order with time remaining.

I believe Speed Channel carried at least some of it live.
