I'm in the Glens Falls area, looking like its gonna get wet and nasty, have left over coal so shes refired.. I didn't do the end of season clean out just yet so i'm good to go,

I shut here down on the 15th, it just seems like its taking a bit to warm up the floors and stuff, it was 38 this am and with no heat on it (was ) a bit on the chilly side..

Never unfired, the old Hitzer just rolls with the current weather situation. 72* in the old homestead. Yep, don't look like a very nice week comin at us. Oh well, lots of fresh oat seeds need it.

Also never shut down the Keystoker 90. She idles down during warmer days keeping basement nice and dry, cooler weather and she kicks it up a notch or two. :)

Just over the hill and around the bend from Rob, I too have the fire still going. For some reason unknown to me, it has been idling better this spring than it did last fall. All is well but chilly in Whippleville. :)

2001Siera. I know what you mean by wishing you had not bought the Buderus. I bought one first with a fancy controller. Fuel oil. Used 1000 gallons of fuel the first year in the house keeping the house 66 degrees with wife BITXXING the whole time. I wish I would have bought this coal boiler ONLY. I just did not have enough info at the time. Most HVAC/Plumbing guys know NOTHING about coal boilers and their ability to sustain fire in the summer with a good draft.

So I'm sitting on a full 275 gallon tank of fuel oil. Thinking about burning it this summer. I put K100 diesel addative in it but would rather burn it than waste it. I am hesitant. That tank was filled with $2.80/gallon fuel oil. What is it now? We would burn about half of it this summer. 130 gallons x $3.80 a gallon=$494.
I bought 8.19 tons of coal first week of May 2011 and still half half a ton or more. Burned about 1.5 to 2 tons last summer. More than I thought I would. Two ton of coal is $500 locally and the coal boiler would be warm. I should sell the fuel oil and buy coal  :woot: :shots:

Your tank of fuel will be usable for years. Go ahead and burn some off for summer hot water and save the rest for next year.

Good call on the diesel additive.

I have only shut it down once to replace the door gaskets. It did however get shut down due to mother nature Sunday night during the snowstorm. Got 6" of extremely heavy wet snow. Our neighborhood looks like a war zone. There were many trees, branches and power lines laying all over the place. We lost power about 3am Monday morning until about 11am. No power = no stoker!! If I had any coal for the Harman sitting out back, I would have hauled it down stairs and hooker her up. Now my better half can see why I wanted to build a battery backup for the stove. It would have been perfect for this. We don't usually loose power for all that long anyway so it would be ideal. She's actually given me the green light to go ahead and build one now. I think the turn around came because once power was back on, I was at work and she had to relight the stove. She can do it but doesn't care to.

Actually I have shut down during some warmer spells but it was still running the night of the storm.

The A/C motors love pure sine wave UPS's. APC Smart UPS's are sine wave. Just from experience with my Kesytoker 90. Motors tend to howl with modifed sine wave output. I am curious if others have different opinions, and or experience. Remember experience comes from bad judgement

I'm still going to do some more research before starting. I want to do this right the 1st time. No sense wasting time and money by not doing it right the 1st time.
