I have used the same gasket on the top loading door. I installed a new one at the beginning of this season. It was probably ok but I changed it anyway. After five seasons it seemed reasonable to just change it.
Which plate are you referring to? The one inside to direct the exhaust to the sides should be in place. I only remove it to clean out the stove at the end of the season.

Just curious, but, why would you want to change something (top loading door gasket) that works??? or are you having a problem?

well looking at mine looks to me when they put it in they cut it a little short and dosent catch all of the front as for the plate it is the one bolted to the top loading door has 4 acorn nuts on it that holds the gasket in place my thoughts are could you just glue a piece of rope gasket in place of the flat one

As long as it don't affect the hinged end--you're good--you do have a hinged end like I do on my Hitzer 50-93????

I would just replace the gasket with a new one. You want to have a good seal around the load hole and keep it clear from debris. You don't want any exhaust leaks coming from there. That could create a CO problem. I think that gasket is thin so it will not put pressure on the hinges. Its very easy to change once the stove is out. If the stove is still going you could just get the correct gasket from your dealer. They cut the length, so have them cut a little extra and try to glue the piece you need, until you replace the old one.
