A SUNNY SIDE ?

Pierre, what am I to say...
It´s kind of hard not to covet and not to feel envy when looking at your stoves! (Besides: what´s going on lately? Antique stoves seem to pop up everywhere on this forum, like mushrooms after an autumn rain.... ). Félicitations -et ma sincère admiration- à tes deux belles poeles!
So what can one do in order to avoid covet & envy? You already guessed it: One - I should rather say "I", as a matter of fact - talks the better half into approval! Finally went and successfully bought a antique stove that meets our needs. It is currently undergoing restoration and will be delivered end of October / early November. .....and another one has successfully been infected with the antique-stove-virus! Williams good influence not only covers the US & Canada, it even streches to good old Germany!

Again: congratulations on your fabulous stoves, looking forward to read about your experiences with that new darling of yours!

OK now. Today I finished the re-re-re-restoration on the Sunny
The hardest/worst thing was to remove the HT silicone. Because the temp. got over the silicone temp. limits, the silicone was like melted and very sticky like chewing gum. Had to apply a special gasket spray remover, wait, clean with a paper towel, finish with the angle grinder having a wire disk on it, paint...and use the right HT cement

Bummer! Well better that you tested it and found the "flaw" of the HT silicone now and it's done. I hope you'll make some video of running this stove after you get the feel for it this winter!

Hi, out of the forum some times, I should work to pay all the rope gaskets used on the Sunny
Yesterday nite I finished a few things on the stove like testing how to put the back top and the surround panel. Good thing cause it is easier to have it done before placing the stove in it's housing. Still have to make an ash pan lid. The old tiles have to be removed (finish to do that .....job) then put the new ones on...
I don't remember if I told that: "I love rope gaskets"

Ha,ha,ha, you just couldn't help it with the rope gasket!

What kind of "right HT cement" did you finally use? Maybe you said earlier, but I missed it...

Plain old furnace cement I think DJ. The HT was great up to a point, but not for those areas that have the possibility to pass 600 degrees.

I used Rutland Furnace Cement.
In fact I was far from thinking that the temp. was over 600*F at the top of the stove cause the thermometer was placed over a convection top section. As soon as I put the thermometer in the center of the stove's top, the T. climbed up as a jet to 600*F.

One step at the time and I should be ready for the next burning season.
Next will be to finish the tile job and make the side and top trims around the stove surround panel.. Connect new stove pipe andddddddddddd FIRE!
