how come when i use the "New" link (upper right), i generally only see a few per day at best? I would like to be able to click "New" and see every new post made in the last 24-48 hours (is this possible?)

The "New" link is based on the activity since your last session expired which is the last time you load a page plus one hour. Once you get beyond that one hour limit and load a page the "New" link only lists posts since your last session expired. Another way to look at is if you kept loading a page every hour the new topics list would continue to grow because the session wouldn't expire. As Dennis mentioned you can use the "Active" link. By default that will list all the active topics for the last seven days. There is a drop down list at the bottom which that will allow you to change it to a year.

The reason there is only handful of topics is because it's May. ;)

That should of been "up to a year", there is option for 2 weeks, 1 month 3 months etc.

Now that I looked the year selection is Irrelevant anyway because it doesn't go back more than 6 months, the reason is because there is a hard limit on the results.
