Sorry I forgot in Conland there is a on-off switch on the wall, on is for recession & off it all ends. If you all really believe the country wasn't heading into a depression so be it, in your fantasy land everything was fundamentally sound & the banks & WS were just kidding along with the rest of the billionaires you all are willing to do everything short of fight to preserve their wealth.

Klook, I guess it's me your referring to, so yep he is spending more. The recession, two wars, the prisoners, medi-care scrips that all were totally unfunded were all here. The bank &W.S. bailouts were started, unemployment was already sky rocketing, if you haven't noticed manufacturing has for the most part been long gone. Without money being honestly being made & spent here I don't care if JC himself comes back as Pres., if your not making money & paying taxes for infrastructure that should have always been kept up in this country you either have to spend more money to make money or you have another depression. The int. alone on the debt can double & triple if you never have the cash to pay anything. Sure you could cut taxes on businesses & the super wealthy, hell even give them more money for nothing. Oh wait I believe that's all ready been done, gee I wonder why cutting the tax for everyone (mostly on top) getting into two wars & giving a unpaid script plan to darn near everyone & never regulating on where or how money is being spent or prosecuting fraud when found. I can't figure out why that didn't work, lets go back do the same things all over & see if it works next time. & you call me crazy.

RW, the employment rate is coming up, slow but up guess no one flicked the recession switch to off. I see quite a lot of jobs (even around here) that no one wants. I guess because unemployment pays more which never should have been allowed to go on that high or long IMO but the biggest thing I see is there is no longer the work ethic that there once was. There is in spots & the older age groups but as I see it in fewer & fewer younger people, maybe the older generation just made things too easy for them.
As for myself insurance costs have come down & I never was brought up to have everything I wanted, it's good that I can get make do & have what I need so I'm thankful for what I have instead of being POed about what I don't have.

I agree but our situation is more precarious than ever before.

Some reasons why I think we're not better off now....

Fed reserve continuing to ruin our currency and creating more debt.
National debt exceeding GDP.
Out of control govt spending.
More people than ever before on the "payroll" of the state with no expectation of earning it or ever paying it back in any way.

There are other things like the Military Ind. Com. revving up (again)...this time to invade Iran but I will stop there. By truly fixing these things, you'd really see "change".

You are right about most of that rock but how much of it requires total Gov. co-operation & how much can be done without? Personally I think he's done a pretty good job with what he has had to work with. Let's face it the Gov. on both sides has been broken, bought & corrupt for so long it's become the standard. They even make laws that only apply to most but exclude others & the buffoons in there now (for the most part) outwardly show that they only look out for themselves & masters & be damned with the good of the country, that's how the credit rating got lowered & now they even refuse to go by the agreement they made if they couldn't agree. It's totally corrupt & almost everyone should be ousted with the only problem being most that are what you would call up & coming have been brought through a system that is corrupt. IMO we are in deeper do-do from within than externally.

After that Olympic mess a few years ago, I was absolutely shocked that one person was standing when the smoke cleared.....a fellow from Michigan. He was well dressed, so none of the tissue he lost was visible, but that had to be a nasty fight with all those 'slick willies' to even survive! I've met him, and his family on one his many trips through our area.....and surprisingly, he has only one mouth, makes very few missteps, but if so, dusts himself off and off to the races he goes.

If I'm blind in one you must be blind in both Jpete, I never said he has done everything correct in my opinion but the fact that he was left with the country probably in the worse shape in history & rapidly going deeper makes many here blind as to what was done.
Just think of it this way, when Bush gave the first tax cut it was because it was our money & the Gov. had enough. He was advised to stabilize S.S. since it had been raided big time but choose not to do so, then 9/11 came & he invaded Afghanistan (no need for that) then he gave another tax cut while at war(no funding) then a good script plan except again (no funding) not that it was enough we invaded another country (unfunded) & along with other things like no bid contracts to the V.P.s employer & having a army of mercenaries(all unfunded)on his way out he gave a gift of unaccountable bailout to the banks to do as they please with no payback (except perhaps to keep their mouths shut). If he were to have let things ride as they were S.S. would be in good shape, we would have destroyed a few terrorist camps from time to time with a fly over & we might have been a wee bit better off.
