It'll help idling the stove as it will allow you to maintain a proper draft. What draft inducer did you get? If you've got the AD-1 check my sig for a link on how to adjust it. Generally you'll want the lowest setting to pull around .04"WC as it is from the factory it is set too high on low.

Was it a pain to install?

No, it was actually quite easy. Just put the sticker on the pipe and use a Dremel to cut it out.

The hardest part was taking it apart to clean after the season was over.

On the draft inducer. Have you had any reliability issues with it? I'm planning to install one to help with keeping my drafting correct as I am changing to a different model coal stove that will be running much lower exhaust temps. I'm a pretty good electrician and have no problems servicing it if it is worth putting in to begin with.

I haven't had any issues with the motor over-heating and shutting off. I've got mine mounted about 2' from the stove though. I've also relocated the switch away from the stove; it's plastic and if heated too much will melt.

I have mine mounted 1 foot away from the boiler and have no issues,
Although I really never needed mine for loss of draft yet

I just installed one on my EFM today, the chimney gets lazy in the hot weather, if there is a problem with it you can be sure I'll post about it.
