Or maybe I'd still be doing the job I wanted to do, and paid to go to school and get a degree in?

How about we deport all the US born citizens that don't meet the criteria?

Read the criteria again. How many of our non-productive welfare US born citizens could meet the criteria? Wouldn't it be better to get rid of them?

A portion of the official criteria:

• has continuously resided in the United States for a least five years preceding the date of this memorandum and is present in the United States on the date of this memorandum;
• is currently in school, has graduated from high school, has obtained a general education development certificate, or is an honorably discharged veteran of the Coast Guard or Armed Forces of the United States;
• has not been convicted of a felony offense, a significant misdemeanor offense, multiple misdemeanor offenses, or otherwise poses a threat to national security or public safety;
and
• is not above the age of thirty.

No matter which way you go about deporting millions after having the doors wide open it's gonna take a lot of law enforcement, equipment & money non of which we have much of. Seeing that the caucasian population is coming real close to being equal in # to other minorities how many are going to be willing to serve thinking that it's selective illegals now so who's going to be next? Will we start by race or religion? Why not try & come up with some realistic solutions, remember some of these people have been here longer than many of us if you want to start throwing everyone out. Should have been doing it all along, kind of like shutting the barn door after all the animals are gone except in reverse.
Another little bit of information that I found.

The realistic solution is to get government out of the way.

Why can't you accept that?

I remember when Ronald Reagan gave in to amnesty, I remember "compromise" with Tip O'neal and the Liberals. Just look at where it got us.
We were bamboolzed, we were fooled into thinking Bi-partisanship was sooo nice and "fair".

And here we sit today 15% real unemployment and the clown in chief ( in an effort to garner more votes) by-passes Congress to invoke amnesty and to kill even more job growth (especielly legals).

Yep, and Greece is being made fun of for it's BS policy as it runs towards insolvencey (sp?) How far off are we?

That's always an interesting point Sam but the past is the past. You can't change what happened starting 500 years ago.

Yes they would. The illegals drive the wages down, it's happening in many industries like construction. If they are no longer available someone has to do that work and the wages will rise until those jobs are filled. If those jobs can't be filled economically they will filled by other means such as putting people to work building and maintaining robots to pick tomatoes. People rarely look at that side of it, cheap labor also stifles innovation.

Totally agree Richard, except it's the employers that bring these people in with job offers in order to keep the wages down. Very few Americans IMO would be willing to do many jobs, in HS days some friends & I would go up to Westfield, NY to pick grapes & it wasn't a bad job at all but yearly I could see the drop off in regulars that never came back. My son got fed up with his irrigation business simply because he couldn't get reliable workers, I got fed up with my estate sales for much the same reason & I was paying cash, only people willing were the older working folks that already had jobs.

So it's the employers fault and not the willful disregard of immigration laws by the current admin. I'm glad things are so simply explained.

Love your links :) I guess that sign is keeping our country secure!!!

If you lived in 1939 Poland I bet you would say " Oh, don't worry about Germany we'll just put up a few signs!"

Here's one of my links for YOU to peruse:

http://mexicanoccupation.blogspot.com/2 ... their.html

On a small scale, I worked landscape labor the last 2 days for a local customer, that I got by approaching him last year. all the time I was sweating my ass off I was thinking of telling him, "You could have got some amigo day laborers for 1/5 of my rate." For once, I kept my big mouth shut and just worked as hard as I could, knowing all the time that there is a threat to my livelyhood getting worse every day.

The few construction projects going on in my neck of the woods are all populated by illegals these days. I will agree it's the contractor's decision to hire them to make more profit. It's a trend. Is your livelyhood directly threatened by any of this?

Obama had control with Reid and Pelosi, why didn't they grant this heinous amnesty then? Last November he stated he couldn't go around Congress to do this. But now it's OK.
I guess it's no problem, 36 months of over 8% unemployment is no hindrance to the 800,000 new upstanding young job seekers, they'll just start businesses and industries. We all know how friendly O is to business creation! The unemployment rate among the same age demographic 16-19 yr olds is something like 43%.

Dann, if there weren't jobs here (people willing to employ them) then you wouldn't see too many. I don't think Americans would be too happy to foot the bill to have an officer every few hundred yards along our borders. Like Richard said you can't change history & as you well know they are already here, there & everywhere. I don't necessarily like it but it's a fact.

Sam we don't need to post a officer every 100 yards. We have a miliatary that they are trying to defund and cut funding.Keep them in force- fund and send them to the boarders with orders shoot when necessary. It would also help stem the flood of drugs coming in to the country. :o Just one tax paying citizens thoughts. :)

Plumb-r, I have no problem with that, I've said for a long time just put up two runs of razor wire a good distance apart & that's a no man's land. Anyone in between can be shot dead & those warning signs would be the only one's in America written in Spanish.

We could close the border by simply planting land mines. Since the US did not sign the "Land Mine Treaty" there's no prohibition against doing so. Doubt any President would do so, there would be world wide political implications. With modern GPS technolgy the land mines could be accurately mapped to tens of inches.

Here's one little fly in the ointment. It's illegal for a business to hire them. What are they supposed to do? Just go on wellfare? They won't be prosecuted for being here illegally but if I hire one and get caught, the govt. will prosecute me.

It's the same thing with outsourcing, these companies have to remain competitive. If farmer Joe is using illegals to pick his tomatoes farmer Fred has to use illegals or no one is going to buy his product because it costs so much more.
