Didn't always live where I do now (last 5 years) most was within 15 miles of Pittsburgh & I had a stay in Miami as well so I think I've had a bit of exposure.

The amnesty passed under Reagan isn't remotely comparable to now, first and foremost it was passed by Congress. That was a bipartisan effort in Congress that only passed because it included two other key provisions, it wasn't just an amnesty law.. It included increased enforcement on illegals and increased enforcement on employers. That was supposed to solve the illegal immigration problem once and for all, as we know it didn't work and actually had the opposite effect. If it had worked Obama would have no one to grant amnesty too.

This is only an incentive for more illegals to come here, I have sympathy for these people especially the children but the fault lays with their parents. What do you tell the person who's spent a great deal of time, effort and money to get into this country legally? I've also seen another interesting point brought up, what do you tell the children of businessman that have indefinite Visa's to conduct business here? They brought their children to this country legally and some may have been here their entire lives. They will have to go "home" when they reach 21 years old. There is no amnesty for them because they are here legally at the moment.

Speaking this morning to talk radio host Laura Ingraham, Florida congressman Allen West, a Republican, blasted President Obama's immigration plan to use prosecutorial discretion not to go after young immigrants who came to the United States illegally. Obama announced his new immigration plan on Friday.

"What country did we wake up in on Friday?," West asked. "It just causes people to ask, where are we? You know, the last time we had this was with King George III, and we didn't like it too much. And I think that you're seeing the resurrection of an imperial presidency, and the arrogance thereof. To think that you can come out and basically tell the American people that this is what we're going to do ... and don't question me."

First off it's not a law & can be stopped at any time (presently a two year limit & it ends), kind of like the Bush tax cuts. He tried the Dream Act & several others but no action or discussion was taken. Even Newt had said in a speech that Bush couldn't get one passed with a Republican Congress & Obama couldn't with a Democratic, guess you have to get the job creators to pass something.

They all suck. This country is doomed. It's just that the dems suck so much more.

Our ancestors were for the most part all destitute aliens, and many to most of them were displaced persons to boot. The only difference is that back then there was no incentive sans the offer of freedom in the form of laissez-faire capitalism. Today there is socialism that is so entrenched in our system that it has us all duped into wanting ever more of it (including the aliens we pompously despise).

Humm, now just what was that famous saying about aliens that to this day still graces the Statue of Liberty? When did we forget about that? Was it when we became as pompous and socialized as the very nations that our ancestors abandoned?

Hey Larry I wish I knew what you are talking about. In my opinion they should turn the Statue of Liberty around 180 degrees, maybe some of the huddled masses yearning to breathe free would exit to their own countries that they have abandoned for the new US welfare state. Mexicans come in here illegally, say how great Mexico is, game and suck dry our generosity, and then proceed to hate us all. Look at the statistics of our prison population, gang violence, severe overburdening of our faltering education system; the way southern California and Arizona are being overwhelmed. Not the pretty picture the Pres paints in between partying with celebrities. That is what I would define as pompous.

Those people in the distant past didn't leave socialist states, they left tyranny or oppression or poverty. Now it is being purposely instututed here and that terrifies me, as, once again, I am witnessing our standard of living attacked.
The time you mention was a time when our country needed more people. Now we do not, 300,000,000+ million is enough, but I know it's not going to stop.
If it's pompous to demand that we remain a sovereign nation and abide by a sensible border policy, then color me pompous.

It's not quite that simple. The change in policy announced on June 15th is rather narrow and is does not take away the other requirements of US immigration law. For example those that can take advantage of the more liberal policy still have to apply for a work permit. What the change in policy memo does it requires DHS to accept the work applications. Once the person does have a work permit, even though they are not a US citizen an employer can legally hire them.

I suggest all shoud read it. You will see it's not amnesty, and specifically says it is not.

Clearly it's a political issue and one the current administration hopes will benefit it. I'm sure they also knew the flack it would create. I view it as a gutsy move by the President. Who knows if it will help or not help his re-election. We will know latter this year. What's known is the failure for decades to address illegal worker issue. Even George Bush's guest worker ideas got no where in Congress.

Why would any immigration reform ever get passed in Congress, their real employers are also the ones that exploit the illegals. That would be asking them to cut their own cheap labor trade.
