Romney's "Some Towns Just Don't Count" Tour

Mitt Romney’s “Every Town Counts” bus tour brought the presumptive Republican presidential nominee across southern Wisconsin and into Iowa Monday and Tuesday.

But the towns didn’t count enough for him to learn their real histories and their real needs. And the tour scrupulously avoided towns where Romney’s Bain Capital continues to put the hurt on American workers.

In Janesville, Wisconsin, where a sprawling General Motors plant closed three years ago, socking the town with one of the highest unemployment rates in the region, Romney failed during his stop to discuss the plant or GM. He couldn’t exactly rip into his November opponent, Barack Obama, for not doing eneough to reopen the plant—a credible gripe—since Obama worked during his first term to save GM while Romney talked up the idea of letting the company go bankrupt.

Your compassion is commendable. Doubtless it gives you many opportunities to practice it with your own money, rather than other peoples.

GM should have been left to go belly up. If any one of us who have a business runs it into the ground, is the President going to help save us from having to close down? I know the some people feel that they were to big to let fail. Propping it up with taxpayer money that we will never see again, and the unions just keep rolling in it. I think Romney just decided that if you can't say anything nice, just don't say anything. Some people live in a bubble and wear blinders. ;)

These sound like well rehearsed 'yes we can' bobble-head "talking points". Did you come up with them yourself, or did you copy them from some web source, and if so, would you mind sharing that source with us?

I agree that GM should have folded in bankruptcy. Ditto for all of the banks, etc... that got bailed out because they were too big to fail.

so why do we pay taxes if it can be printed into existence and expended directly for our benefit as members of a 'society'?

Because if Congress took that final step (essentially as Lincoln did during the Civil War when he issued Greenbacks) the jig would be up and the value of currency would eventually collapse to nothingness (as it was in the process of doing during the Civil War), since it is only of value if people have faith in it, but if everyone knew how the game was rigged, their faith would collapse and that would collapse the currency and the game would be over.

“It is well enough that the people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning.” - Henry Ford

Taxes are just smoke and mirrors to make us feel like we are accomplishing something and to perpetuate the system.

Congress has the authority and the responsibility to issue a currency and TAX FREE but instead we have a private consortium which extracts interest via payments.

Congress has the authority to coin money and regulate the value thereof. It does not have the authority to force anyone to use or accept it, exclusively or otherwise. That is a matter of free will. The States on the other hand (not being persons of free will) are obligated to accept only gold and silver as currency.

There had always been independent bank notes which were totally independent of Government currency, and functioned freely along side it. You (and whomever you bartered or traded or contracted with) were once free to choose what your trust was to be placed in with regard to what you considered to be an honest store of value.
