Don't know or really care where the#'s come from-- but SSD & SSI are 2 totally different things--SSD is people with disabilites that have pd into the system & are eligable for govt. help---SSI is welfare & to many bums get it--all you really have to do is be fat & get a good lawyer which is usually legal aid. Most of them go on to work with ACLU----With SSI--we the people pay for it. :x

The problem is, you can go on disability for "depression" and I'm quite sure the expiration of your unemployment benefits is a depressing scenario.

Don't know about that Fred, my mother wasn't fat, lazy or a bum after my father died when I was 12 & my sister was 16 & she needed it for us to live, back then it was legal for a Co. to have a bean counter add up all the strike & sick time & any other reason to screw a wife out of a meager pension & it's coming back to that again. There are always abusers to the system & they should be weeded out & it's the greed of those that know how to cheat along the that make the system bad, if enough people raised a stink then maybe something would be done. I busted a cop once that was on disability & I saw him out dancing & took a few photos.

Fred I don't know about it either. If it weren't for SSI I wouldn't be the person I am today. In the late '50s my Father contracted Tuberculosis, was admitted to a NJ State Hospital, had one lung removed and was a resident for 4 years. All on the tax payers dime. He never worked again. During that time my Mother collected on his SSI, $52.50 a month. Plus since I was under 18 she got an additional $10.50 for herself and another $10.50 for me. Without your so called welfare, I would have never gone to college (partially financed with government loans) graduated and become a productive member of society. The government and society long ago got there investment back in me, both in taxes and intellectual skills applied in the defense of this nation. No I wasn't in the military but without the brain power efforts of engineer's and scientist's like me all this Star Wars stuff would never happen. The bottom line is you don't know where in the gene pool of human life are those who will contribute society's betterment. This nation needs them all, including the new immigrants.

What would you have done? Let my Father live in the street? Die with an infectious disease, while spreading it to others? Not have the county public health nurse visit each month and bring the pills to make sure the Tuberculosis stayed dormant? Health insurance, what health insurance? There was none, the masonry contractor my Father labored for, screwed over anyone he could, deducted witholding tax but didn't submit it to the government. Only the threat of prosecution by the head of the local Social Security office got the witholding taxes paid. Contractor went bankrupt and lost his house trying to stay out of jail.

I didn't know that Sam. something like that is devastating to a kid. My mother died when I was 12.

I respect and admire your amazing engineering talents and stories. But I respectfully disagree that this nation "needs them all". If you look at what is happening in the southwest and L.A., you might be able to calculate that this isn't the case at all. The USA cannot absorb the world's population. It's destroying us.

Guys!!! I'm talking about the guidelines for today with the SSI process. That's all I can speak on, If things were still regulated the way they were back when--life would be real different It just pisses me off when I go to places like DMV & there is a sign--If you need an interpreter let us know--learn the friggin language--I'd bet a $ to a donut that more people abuse SSI then the ones that actually need it--this used to be what our govt. is about--thanx bleedin heart libbers  Nothing to do with this specific SSI thing but still---- Yanche, if your father worked all his healthy life, I doubt if it was SSI your Mom received. I mean, he put in, he would of gotten SSD--these current SSI requirements are for people that have not or will not.

And NO Sam, I wasn't talking to you in particular but now that you explain your circumstances perphaps you qualify but that wasn't my point anyways. I know a person with Lupis, cannot go out in the Sun, cannot be around floresent lighting and is half paralyised, he is not on SSI or D.

Like I said some people qualify some don't, there is evidence to suggest that with the massive amount of people who ran out their 99 weeks of umemployment, the 45% increase in Food Stamps and the 3.1 on SSI I'd say there's alot of room for fraud.

This is what we have, more people in the CART telling US to PULL HARDER!

The thing was Fred it wasn't the bleeding heart libbers that put that particular law into place. Seems that everything that is unpopular is a libs fault & a con can do no wrong. Like I have said so many times before both parties have more than had a chance to change things for the better, there has always been known abuse but both sides ignore it.

Ed, like I said you have to keep on them if you have a rightful claim, I have a B in L that is in an advanced stage of MS & he had trouble getting it. Even once you get it you still have to wait something like 18 mo to two years to get medicare, not too many people that can afford over 5 grand/mo. for drugs. Sure it's a flawed system but it could be approved rather than kicking on down the road. Heck instead of Congress wasting time & money trying to kill HC they could have been fixing some things like this, don't know how much a reading & vote + whatever else is involved costs but over 30 times already trying something that they know can't pass but it has to be in the millions.

So how is Obamacare "fixing" anything by removing half a TRILLION dollars from Medicare?

And piling debt on top?

The HC Act would negate the need for some of medicare, it's not taking it away from needed care just shifting the source. Would the GOP plans of the past (since they don't have a current one) perhaps be better to just take away & not replace?

Like when Obama had complete control of the House and Senate and nothing got done? I hear they were too busy shoving Obamatax down our throats.

You're sinking in the same boat we are, you just defend the list to port instead of trying to plug the hole.
