Health Care Law Repeal Efforts By House GOP Cost Nearly $50

While Republicans lambast the cost of implementing health care reform, a new report shows that their efforts to repeal the law have come at a major cost to taxpayers -- to the tune of nearly $50 million.

The House of Representatives again voted to repeal President Obama's signature health care law on Wednesday, marking the 33rd time Republicans have attempted to take down the legislation. The 32 previous repeal efforts faltered at the hands of the Democrat-controlled Senate; the latest attempt is unlikely to break that pattern.

According to a report by CBS News, these efforts, widely viewed as symbolic political maneuvers, come with a high price tag.

CBS' Nancy Cordes reported Wednesday that Republicans' many fruitless attempts at repealing the Affordable Care Act have taken up at least 80 hours of time on the House floor since 2010, amounting to two full work weeks. As the House, according to the Congressional Research Service, costs taxpayers $24 million a week to operate, those two weeks amounted to a total cost of approximately $48 million.

If nothing has changed since the first try then yes they are wasting tax payer money, how many times do you do the same thing & expect different results? Seems to be the olny thing the GOP can try & they still haven't a clue why it won't work, whats that telling you?

Why did the Democrats bring national health care back after HillaryCare was defeated?

By your own metric, how much money was "wasted" on Obamacare?

Maybe because as Queen Nancy said "We have to pass it to find out what's in it" is what changed? Now it's passed, now we know what's in it and it's more clear to more people that it's a "Death Panel" for the whole country?!

This is just the short list of energy companies backed by President Barack Obama that have failed. President Obama has wasted tax payer money on these companies and he wants you to re-elect him so he can give you more of the same.

Being the ideologue that he is, he WONT back down from funding more fake (meaning they have never proven themselves profitable or actually have made a product that works)

Can the United States of America REALLY afford FOUR MORE YEARS of this president?

The entire program of Obamacare will ultimately cost us trillions of extra dollars. There will come a time when we will see $50 million in an effort to exorcise this demon to be mere chump change by comparison.

In 1965, as Congress considered legislation to establish a national Medicare program, the House Ways and Means Committee estimated that the hospital insurance portion of the program, Part A, would cost about $9 billion annually by 1990.v Actual Part A spending in 1990 was $67 billion.

In 1967, the House Ways and Means Committee predicted that the new Medicare program, launched the previous year, would cost about $12 billion in 1990. Actual Medicare spending in 1990 was $110 billion—off by nearly a factor of 10.

Odd how now the big thing is repeal Obama care period but when McCain was running both sides needed & promised HC reform. Now I guess we just go back to where only the lucky few will have it, I have heard of no republican plan to do anything other than let the HC & Ins. industries run rampant once again & I guess because they are such nice & benevolent people H Ins. will be reasonable. If that's not the plan kindly present what the secret plan is.
It wasn't long ago younz didn't want birth control pills paid for by Ins, how many BC pills will 50 million buy & the bigger difference is the pills are known to work, Congress isn't.

By 2011 Medicare cost us $555 billion, and Medicaid cost us roughly $400 billion. Well beyond any imagined initial estimates of their cost.

Medicaid Accounted for 24% of Total State Spending in FY 2011.

Can you imagine how much less health care would actually cost if there were not these combined roughly $1 trillion in dollars available to the medical industry? Eliminating these socialized medical care programs as well as Obamacare would mean real health care reform.

The only valid health care reform would be to abandon all government level intervention and assistance, and allow the free markets and charity to work. Anyone who feels this will not be enough is free to contribute all they can to the charity hospital of their choice.

The bottom line is $50 million has been wasted by this Congress doing what it does best & what it promised to do "NOTHING". They are only in session less than half a year & they are doing nothing but wasting time & money. Why not just realize that it was the GOP that lost & get on with the business at hand for the good of the country & All the people? That's the bottom line, they took the first oath to the constitution & that should be the only one.
