Outdoor coal bin/ bulk storage

I would like to know if their are any concerns I should have with regards to building a outdoor coal bin. My main concern would be ground water contamination all the wells in my area are not very deep 40 to 60 ft. I want to have a 20 ton load brought in. Any thoughts would be appreciated my thinkn would be a pt constructed bin with a canvas cover so their very well could be some rain/snow mixing at times. Thanks.curt

I wouldn't worry too much about contamination unless it's oiled. IIRC anthracite is used as a filter for some municipal water supplies.

I think the big issue is to make sure it's dry before the cold weather arrives - it can be a hassle if it freezes. Take delivery far enough ahead of time that it can dry out, and keep it well covered.
