Can your blower be too big?

Can your blower be too big?

PostBy: JJLL On: Fri Nov 30, 2007 11:19 am

Hi everyone,
I'm in the market for a blower. The Kodiak stove I have has an optional 125 cfm fan, which I did not buy.

But now... I want a blower :)

I'm looking on ebay and all over the internet. I've found a few well priced Fasco blowers that can move between 265 cfm and 600 cfm.

My question is, if I purchased even the 265cfm blower which is twice the size, would it move too much air? Would it have a negative effect and cool the stove down?

Thank for any tips!

It would be too large. It would cool the stove too much, cause too much noise and air velocity.

I bought one of the slowest and least CFMs from Grainger. It's probably still a bit too much.

Most stoves have a std. 265cfm blowers, optional 350-400cfm. The mfr. usually sizes the blowers for optimum air flow over the stove. It would wash the heat too fast and blow cooler air if sized too big.

You could use the higher CFM, if you put a Reohstat (varible speed control NOT a dimmer switch) on it, you can control the speed as long as it is a "Shaded Pole" Motor.

check here, a lot of different ones...
