Ice Coal.

What is ice coal?

Someone near me is offering free bags of ice coal. But, I have no idea what that means. Does "ice" refer to the size of the coal?

Thanks for any help!

Huh, I never thought about that! ;)

I was picturing coal the size of ice cubes which we refer to as "stove" coal.

Stove is about the size of baseball, ice cube size would be pea.

http://nepacrossroads.com/kb/anthracite ... cite_Sizes

----------------------

Barley is like coarse sand. 3/16 X 3/32

Rice coal is the size of an eraser from a pencil. 5/16 X 3/16

Buckwheat (Buck) is the size of dime. 9/16 X 5/16

Pea coal is the size of a quarter or a little smaller. 13/16 X 9/16

Chestnut (Nut) is the size of golf ball or a little larger. 1-5/8 X 13/16

Stove is the size of baseball or a little larger. 2 7/16" X 1 5/8"

The exact sizes vary by breaker and will even change over time as the screens get worn out. ;)
