Homecomfort, you miss the point of the second amendment. It is to be part of the checks and balances against out of control government. If you work for restrictions on civilian "arms" you are just making it easier for a fascist police state to take total control over everyone's life. Please, look at history. Yes, individuals will do stupid things but the greatest mass murders are perpetrated by GOVERNMENTS.
If you want a peaceful world outlaw sociopaths. (edit: Read this line with a hint of sarcasm. I know there is no responsible way to do so. Twisted people are part of the human condition and we are stuck with them. They have to be dealt with individually if they prey on others. I don't believe we will ever have a truly peaceful world. Making the greater society easier to victimize isn't the answer.)
