Violation of Civil Liberties or Rights?

You are in a hard spot . I feel your pain . I just had to put $8000 in to a leach field because I am connected with my neighbor. I definately don't have the money . You need to ask these people if you pay where is the money going .if they don't maintain the lake with your money ask them who you sue . Ask them who has all the contracts to do the work . Most likely it's someones family member

Ahhhhh, the plot thickens

You guys know I love you right? Seriously. This is why I come here. You all tell it like it is and let me vent. I know I get a little....noisy with my writing.

Yes, I've made bad decisions, yes, I've made mistakes. I've been trying to fix a lot of them. What really set me off with this whole thing was the ex-president of the lake making a snide comment to my wife. I'm more pissed off at the way a lot of people act in this lake.

Now, I spent a good part of yesterday talking to my Zone Rep. He's already told me that he's well aware of our financial situation and that he understands things aren't easy. For anyone. They've changed their policies to reflect that; though they don't tell anyone. If you go to their website all of the policies are the same. He's told me what they are looking to get to bring us current and that they'd also like just a little more to pay down our past dues. He's said they aren't looking to have the past dues paid in one shot; they know it's unreasonable. I've told him that in the past when we tried to do this we were met with a lot of resistance and unwillingness to work with us. He said they've been hearing that a lot and are trying now to change how they approach people. There are still some bad eggs but for the most part they are willing to work with the members. I've been given some monetary figures to work with and he says whatever is best for us they can probably work with it. I've got a face to face meeting Saturday morning with him.

So, I'll how it goes on Saturday and I'll let you all know. If you still want to know. I know I've probably ruffled a lot of feathers.

Homeowners associations are a deal with the devil. It sounds as if you found someone that is reasonable so hopefully you can work it out. Don’t get upset at your face to face and don’t try to upset the man you are talking to. If the conversation degenerates into raw emotion nothing will get accomplished and you are right back to square one.

What helped me calm down was one of the first things he says to me is, 'My parent's live across the street from you. You've helped my dad out a couple of times. Both my mom and dad can't say enough good things about you and your wife.'

So, I lowered my back and figured if his parent's like me then maybe I can make him like me and come to some sort of an agreement.

Well, the meeting with the lake went better than I expected. He asked me what we were looking to pay a month and when I told him he was like, 'Well, since we're familiar with your situation why don't we do this, give us $100 a month. Then if you can afford a little more month by month just throw it in the check. We don't want you over extending yourselves. And if for any reason you don't have the money one month just call us and tell us. This way we won't levy a late fee. We're not trying to screw people, especially ones in your position. We want to help as best as we can.'

So, we start paying next weekend and I can put my trash out this upcoming Monday. I have to go down and pickup my badges and car stickers now. I did tell him that we tried to do this several times and we were told, 'All or none.' and he said that some of the reps are like that, it's not their policy and they've been working to fix it.

Me too. It definitely helped to talk to someone who is willing to work with someone. I also found out that the guy I met with this morning and had been talking to during the week isn't a zone/district representative. He's the lake president. It's always nice to see someone in charge of things stepping up and making an effort to work with people.

It's too bad those in the government aren't willing to do that.

You were kind to those elders and that is a big plus man!!!!!

Go easy on yourself, I get pretty frustrated when I'm overwhelmed myself!
