Coal for Sale

I also remember the original poster saying that this stuff was sub standard coal--I got no sympathy for any of you guys that went with your cheap ass outlooks on coal purchasing--me thinks "OLD" WN way back stated--you get what you pay for

Hey Fred, Maybe you need to reread this post and find where it said substandard coal. I was the first to reply and was assured that the "EFM guys really love it". I hustled right down there and got some. My biggest regret is I didn't post my find sooner. I did tell a bunch of forum members by pm. They were the ones that started questioning the quality. If I had posted sooner maybe a lot more guys wouldn't have been stuck with it. I see a lot of adds lately on Craigs list to "take it for free". Wonder if it's the same stuff?

The guy selling the coal never said any thing about it being crappy. All he posted in reply to numerous requests for test results was "I'm on vacation". Most people were kinda like saying be quiet and don't kick a gift horse in the mouth.

JUst a thought, but, isn't that what's got this Country in the fix it is--people being quiet & the old don't kick a gift horse in the mouth syndrome I know that the guy was suggsting come & get samples before buying bulk--that's just what I read in to it-- Sc, people got exactly what they paid fo--I'm on vacation???? there's your sign--I know I'd be awful pissed at myself for being --let's see--a politically correct word??? OK --stupid covers it

That's dug out from where they had a mine fire.

There is nothing wrong with the coal itself, it never went through a separation plant. At a breaker they have what is called a Menzies Cone. Magnetite is mixed with the water which allows the coal to easily float to the top and the rock goes out the bottom.

Thanx for that post Richard. I've heard about Them & what they do, but had no idea what they looked like--good explination included also.

That's the gist of Fred even if it differs slightly in a modern plant, I'm not even sure if they used the magnetite in the one I posted. That is why it was $100. Doesn't matter where you're getting it from when they strip mine it's going to have slate in it unless they hit a really thick vein or a fold

As far those having trouble with this coal, get yourself a regular load and mix it. Don't mix it all together at once but as you're using it in case it doesn't work out. Other than jammed grates you shouldn't have too much trouble if it's mixed

If you pick all the rock out of it, it will burn. The coal i got was nowhere near what the sample was i was given. To me that is fraud by misrepresenting a product you are selling. I was in contact with them about getting my money back and was told ok except for freight charges. I said fine. After a few emails i was totally ignored. I filed a complaint with the State Attorney Generals office in PA. I told him i was going to do that if i wasn't happy with a refund or somehow to work this out. He was saying "oh no, you don't have to do that". Well he should have honored his word. I filed a complaint a few months back. I finally got a response from the state and they said i was offered my money back but then stopped responding. This guy is a complete liar. I had to respond back to the state again and tell them Newport was the one whom stopped responding and i will not consider this resolved until i see a check. I urge anyone whom has dealt with this company to file a online complaint with the State Attorney Generals office in PA. Even if you bought 1/4 ton and it won't burn, your receipt says coal and the product delivered was not coal but a mix of stone shale and coal. http://www.attorneygeneral.gov/complaints.aspx?id=451
Here is a picture of how much stone out of a 5 gallon pail, i picked out by hand, i'm sure there was more but i didn't feel like spending more than a hour sorting.

When it is mixed with the coal, or when it is wet,it is black. I you hose it down and let it dry, the rock becomes much more visible.

I guess I was too kind in my review to say the least. I went up there to get a ton initially and when I saw the coal I had some major reservations. So I loaded up 2 buckets which they wanted to charge me $15.00 a piece for. I then told them that John said I could get 2 buckets to sample and they really hestitated anbut ultimitely gave me the sample I was promised however. That really should have been my first clue right there. However I'll usually give people the benefit of the doubt. The sample I had like I said earlier seemed like it was very soft like sub anthracite or bitty coal. I know I wasn't impressed so I only was there to get the sample and I knew it wasn't for me.

That's expensive under any circumstances. You can get bagged coal for that much.

Hudson used to charge $2 a 40 gallon bucket until the Bureau of Weights and Measures decided they needed to protect the consumer forcing them to stop. That's going back 10 years or more. Probably be around $3.50 now.

I paid $4.50 a bucket of jeddo this past fall.
