The chart I devised in the Political Spectrum PDF above is quite logical, no? Everyone sits somewhere on the outside edge of the diamond.
Most people can jump all around depending on the issue. I don't think religious right is the opposite of socialist for example. Even Sam can be quite conservative at times (don't tell him though).
Ah, therein lies the problem. Your perspective of opposites is off kilter. You are reading the scales of the diamond incorrectly. As both sides approach either the top most or bottom most point of the diamond, they actually meld and become more alike, not more opposite. The top and bottom halves of the diamond are ultimately the real opposites. They are more opposite yet if they are at the top left vs. the bottom right, or the top right vs. the bottom left.
You are right. Most people have the ability to morph their ideology. It takes both principles and values (I.E., character, right or wrong, good or evil) to have an ideology that is entrenched upon the diamond at a fixed point. Morphing is done only at the behest of sacrificing ones own true principles and values. And since Romney has morphed the farthest from his real ideology, he is clearly the least principled of the two candidates.
Have you ever noticed how Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul often seem to agree and be alike, even though Dennis is a Social Libertarian leftist and Ron is an Objectivist Libertarian rightist? It is because they are both approaching the top pinnacle, and although they are coming at it from differing perspectives (different sides), their outlooks are often quite similar on many issues.
Have you also noticed how the establishment Democratic party (which is collectively sitting somewhere around or between the Socialist and Communist zones at present) despises Dennis Kucinich more than any other Democrat, and likewise how the Republican Party (which collectively sits somewhere between Religious Right and Necon at the present time) absolutely despises Ron Paul more than any other Republican? It is only because they are on the opposite half of the diamond from the up/down perspective that they are so despised. I wonder if this had anything to do with both of their Congressional districts being gerrymandered out of existence, and thus both of their Congressional careers are now coming to an end when their terms expire? Hummm???
Those with the least principles and values of all actually sit at either the left most or right most points of the diamond. They are the diametrically opposed brain dead "useful idiots" whom the establishment Democrats and establishment Republicans count upon to indefinitely continue the DemoPublican charade. The ones who are the most easily duped into believing (through blind faith, not logic) that collective wisdom actually does arise from a pool of individual ignorance.
I personally believe that as those sitting on either side of the diamond approach the top pinnacle of the diamond they are approaching the ideal of goodness and justice, and as either side approaches the bottom pinnacle of the diamond they are approaching pure evil and injustice, but clearly I am in the minority on that point.
