Follow Berlins advice and you'll be fine ;)

You've done an excellent job on this project 8-)

If the pics with the tape demonstrate what you're getting in the ash bin, you need more air - that's all coke.

See how easy it is when somebody else does something. The secret is to always let somebody else do it.

Damn! That is a very nice setup. Your coal is 1/2 mile away from the boiler? How do you plan on keeping debris and such out of that coal? How does it drain?

Bought a couple of heavy duty tarps to keep the trash out, the trough drains toward the front..

Berlin, I will give it more air and cut the feed rate a little at a time, then give it a few hours to stabilize.

Tell us more about that auger set-up, please.

Looks to be a flex auger being used there. :)

It is a 10 foot straight run of flex, 3-1/2" in diameter, it breaks up clinkers real well, beats carrying ash pans. They ordered me a 1/2 hp motor, they said the cost difference was small, but they have had no trouble with them, the smaller motors have been problematic lately.

Very nice. The ash auger is what I'll be doing with the anthracite to bituminous conversion I've been working on eventually. Couldn't get the GJ stoker work well with bit, switched to an Allen and It's been working fine for the last 4 days. I modified the ash slicers to push the fuel back into the retort as it spins around; something you may be interested in - it eliminated almost every bit of coke loss. I used 316L and bent it to do so; so far the fire hasn't bothered it.

Thanks guy,s. I think the only reason my GJ worked is my auger is larger than the one you have, my pot auger tube is 2-3/4" with an auger of 2-5/8 and once I got the proper size bin auger and tube the grinding stopped.

I dont think mine is making coke, I get ash and clinkers about golf ball size and they look like they have fuzed alluminum in them. I threw a hadfull on top of a hot firebed in my Hitzer and they did nothing, I'd think if they had coke in them they would burn or at least glow red.

That is awesome, this is the first time I seen this thread, very nice job, really nice piece of property, good job...
Around here it is a no no to put the draft control in the bull head of a tee, no big deal I see it all the time, but with coal units I try to get it as close to the breach as possible unless instructions state different {some units say 8 or 12"s before any terminations or bends, like buderus oil fired g boilers}.

Very nice, congrats on a great looking setup, I appreciate seeing people that take price in their homes mechanical equipment, I can't count the customers homes i go in and they own a $4000 TV and I'm pricing a boiler that will last 30 years and they say "wow $5000, do they make a cheaper one?" , drives me crazy...

Same around here, but my install wound up being closer to the back wall than I had planned and the stack comes up at an angle meaning the baro would have to face directly toward the boiler or the wall making it quite difficult to clean out or adjust so I thought I would try it like this, so far no problems. Thanks for noticing and watching out for me though, never hurts to have extra eyes on a project like this.
