I think it should be policy that if you don't put a claim in they should cut you a check every year for your policy. But, they don't. The money you pay them just disappears. I've often wondered, where does it go? Their pockets I presume. I completely understand, they are a business and that business needs to make money to pay their employees. But they just screw everyone.

GEICO (the former "Government Employees Insurance Co.") used to advertize that they only insure good drivers. Well guess what: Once you need them for an accident, you are no longer a good driver.

I would say what Progressive did was fraud and that is where the government does in fact have a role. Except the state of Maryland nullified it with their own laws.

The customer pays the insurance company to represent THEM, not the other guy.

Seems like a clear case of taking money under false pretenses to me.

This thread is a good example of the market correcting an abuse. This bad publicity will in time alter their practices, not because they suddenly get religion but because it is bad for business.

I had good luck with State Farm UNTIL my son put in a claim for hitting a deer. The adjuster offered x amount in settlement. Among other things, she said she deducted $400 from the car's value because the hood was scratched a little bit and needed to be painted. As if slightly-imperfect hood paint made any difference at all to a 12 year old car. When I pointed out that the hood was completely destroyed by the deer hit and they would likely have to paint the replacement anyway, she backed off and allowed the extra $400.

This was after being State Farm customers over 30 years. The agent, who is so lovey-dovey and sends me cute little return-address stickers for my Christmas cards, didn't even want to talk to me about settling the claim.

I was sitting in the garage watching a fast moving t-storm come by last week, a tulip poplar branch fell on the landlady's Korean Kadillac. The next day I got a photo of the dings it put in her car, she said she was going to call it in right away. Decided not to, they have a $500 deductable.

I drive junky old trucks and just pay the minimum extortion fee. I have 21st Century that used to be AIG. How could such a huge company go under with all their profits?

In the meantime thousands of illegals drive without insurance in NJ and get a pass.

When I worked steady at the rich people's place, the illegal maid backed into my truck and took off running. The owner got her to come back with an interpreter. The lady said " Ohh, she is honest lady ohhh." Well why did she take off then? We agreed that she would pay me $500 cash to settle. Nice guy me knew that was a week's pay for her. The next day nice guy me gave her back $300 because I felt sorry for her. The dent is still in my truck.

Then the owner backed into my Ranger and took out my taillight assy. Messed up her big Suburban. Nice guy me put in a claim for the $28 taillights I got and they sent me a letter; "Congradulations, we've approved your claim." I could have had the body shop do the repair to the tune of a grand or so. The dent is still in the Ranger.

I heard humans first banded together in settlements to make it easier on everybody to survive and raise families. Now look what all that has perverted into!

and you always hear people trying to get everybody to band together and boycott a particular oil company "on Tuesday", when the gas prices skyrocket. If that could happen on a big enough scale, we could bring the oil companies to their knees. But it never seems to come together and happen.

I forget the company but I had a similar one. Adjuster wanted to take off $1000 for a scratch on the quarter panel of an 89 Sable wagon which was 6 years old at the time. He tried to explain that if a body shop took the quarter off to fix another car, they'd have to do "extra" work to fix that scratch.

I told him to stop BS'ing me because if a 6 year old Sable wagon needed a quarter panel, the insurance company was going to total it and not fix it anyway. And on the off chance they DID fix it, the amount of work involved putting a quarter panel was going to dwarf that little scratch.

It took a few months, but I got enough to pay off the loan on the Sable and pay tax, title, and registration on a 1995 Ford Contour. With a Zetec motor no less!

Last I knew, my ex-fiance was still driving that car with no issues.

Isn't that how it is with everything these days? You pay for something and as soon as you need it it's not there for you?

Hell, haven't insurance companies ALWAYS been like this? So, it's nothing new. I remember when I was 25 I couldn't find an insurance company that would insure me. And I hadn't had an accident or a claim in years. Insurance, like banks are a joke. Its all a scam and a cash grab.

You got that right. In MA, the state conveniently helps out their buddies in exchange for votes. The state tells the cops when their not generating enough "tax" revenue, and they go on a ticketing spree. Then, when you pay, or lose in court, you get surcharged for 6 years by the insurance company. It's a nice racket they have going on there ....

Did you read the actual guy's statement - the brother of the girl killed - in the link that YOU posted? How he basically said Progressive's statement was horseshit?

It ain't about Glenn. The guy just works for him. And if you think Beck spews "crap", then your either part of the problem with this country, or you know nothing about what he does on his show. That guy has done more to help this country in 3 years than most will do in a lifetime.

A couple times a year our city gets a grant from some federal agency, who knows which, for law enforcement. They use it to pay overtime to the cops that want it, by setting up a speed trap on the most heavily traveled road in the city. It's a road everybody drives safely at 35, day in and day out, but the limit is 25 so they set up just over the crest of a hill to catch as many as possible in as short a time as possible. Somebody asked, when you have a whole line of a dozen cars going the same speed, who do you stop? The police chief said, we usually stop the first car in line because that's the ringleader. Seems to me the first car is line is the SLOWEST driver, that's why the others are backed up behind him.

Oh no, you didn't fire Flobot as well did you? I've had Erie for a long time & only had trouble once when the driver that rear ended my first wife had Erie as well, they don't like it when they don't have some other Co. to make pay, took forever to get that settled.
