I guess now I know what happened to my daughter '00 Focus. It lived well until it suddenly tossed a rod.

Maybe ... but after the $53 it cost me before, I'm done trying.

Yeah gotta love it. Can guarantee it was the same deal, only it sounds like in her case the RPM's were a bit higher, completely destroying the piston & wrist pin & sending both to the oil pan.

Machine shop assembled the assembly. ;) Best $15 ever spent.

WTF!!?? AN '08??? :eek2: What the hell is going on with the auto industry these days??? :(

Looks like outsourcing jobs to china is commonplace in every single industry in America now. Sign of the times, I guess.

So ... how the hell did that happen? Just a piston failure ... or did inferior head assembly practices cause this one just like the Focus?

In other news, the Focus has ............ wait for it ........................... a check engine light on. Like I didn't expect that one! .......

So in order to sell this thing, I've got to somehow drive it, (with no registration) without getting tossed in jail, enough to run these damn stupid assed OBD-II monitors. Code is for the o2 sensor heater circuit. REALLY???? A *censored* 02 heater and you fail in MA. Boy I'll *censored*' tell ya ........

Best part is .... the EVAP and CAT monitors haven't run yet ... so could have 2 more codes to spend money I don't have on. *censored* YOU MASSACHUSETTS AND YOUR *censored* EMISSIONS TESTS!!! :mad3: Hope all you sons of bitches in Boston taking my hard earned money CHOKE ON IT & *censored* DIE!!!!!!!!!

How do you really feel about the 'wonderful folks' that make and administer the laws.....they all drive rigs under warranty, so no big deal to them....the rest of us suck pond water....... :mad2: :woot:

No comment on Ford products....BUT I do know lots of 7.3, 6.0 and 6.4 owners, and I am NOT one of them! 7.3 guys feel lucky, the rest is a crap shoot..some good, some like the steaming piles a dawg leaves behind. :!:

It has 79000 and is still under warrenty. Ford motor company denied the claim for lack of maint. records. Not 100% sure on cause. I think fuel pump is the cause.

Looks like the injector spray pattern was out of whack to me...could have over-fueled that cylinder.

Is that the #8 cylinder? I was reading on one of the powerstroke sites about piston failures being common in that cylinder...it doesn't take much fuel in the oil to get the oil level too high, and then it gets sucked into the intake...must be #8 is the most likely to drink it.

Why would you think a dealership has a full machine shop?

They aren't going to put one piston in because you aren't going to pay them to do it. If it gets to that point, they do the whole engine. It's cheaper in the long run because you are only paying for a remove and replace. Not knocking the whole thing apart and machining and reassembling the whole engine.

Every manufacturer has service replacement engines. I've never heard of one that had an entire machine shop. I don't even think the Tasca performance garage has a full shop.

I didn't expect them to have a machine shop - I expected them to be able to handle the simple task (with the correct tools) of pressing the wrist pin into the connecting rod. It's the dealer - aren't they supposed to have the ability to work on the cars they sell? I don't think that's too much to ask!

They weren't going to "put in" anything - I don't go do dealers - I do the work myself. I just brought the piston, connecting rod, & wrist pin with me - not the whole car. That would be the day! I could imagine the bill for that!

I guess that's one of the models they decided should live .... or, probably more to the truth .... decided NOT to cheap out on & cut corners. Seems the Focus was the only model that spit valve seats.
