Saey hanover II side door latch.

Saey hanover II side door latch.

PostBy: beemerboy On: Sat Sep 22, 2012 9:41 am

Last night I felt cold enough to start a fire in my stove. When I got the stove cleaned out and the kindling in place ready to light I looked over at the side loading door and noticed that it was slightly open. Upon further inspection I noticed the latch is broken.

So, here I sit with my little bathroom heater running trying to keep warm waiting for a stove dealer to open, hoping against hope that they have a new latch in stock or if they could even get me one.

The latch is made from cast iron, but I'm wondering if I had one made of steel it would work as a plan "B".

57 degrees in the house is a little too cold for my comfort.

Well... I emailed bowmans stove and no dice. They told me that this was not a common part and they would have to get one from the foundry where ever that is and it won't be available until after the new year.

So, what I did was to take a 6" long 3/8" bolt, bent it 90 deg about half way, grind off the head. then I stuck the bolt under the latch hook and made a cross bar and screwed a nut on the end.

It's not elegant but it works. I'm thinking of having a new latch made out of 3/8" steel.

BB

Did you try? http://www.bierlygroup.com/saey/index.htm

I believe they are the importers for Saey in the US. Their website has a parts section as well here: http://www.bierlygroup.com/saey/parts.htm

Hope this helps..
