well the wife got me to light the stove off yesterday. I told her that with the temps in the 60 and 70 its going to be in the high 80 in the house. the response I got, i'm cold!? well its 82 and half the window-stats are open. well at least the wife is comfortable. i'm sweating my a** off. well I was going to finish installing the boiler but I have been told were going to be moving in the spring. so this will be the last year for the hand fired. cant say that I am going to be missing the 80 to 90 temps that this house gets when its 0 out. but construction on the new place has started and I am not a fan of doing double work.

Wow thats early! My response is always "that's what sweaters are for" but that can also get you "on the couch". I refeuse to light mine before mid October at least but I will pop the little Jotul gasser on some nights/mornings now.

I'm holding off until late October myself. But then, I haven't exactly gotten around to really doing anything with the stove itself yet. I still need to get it hooked up. But I finally did go into the basement and flipped the breaker for the oil furnace and I cycled it on once just to make sure the blower motor wasn't seized up like it was last fall.

Last year I fired my Hitzer up right before Halloween ... this year likely 2-3 later. I can put a sweater on when its 55-65 outside. Right now electric heat is cheaper than oil (per the handy-dandy fuel comparison). So if it gets a little chilling, turn on the electric heater for 30 min.

We all know what its like when you fire it up too early ... stuck with it or let it die to clean out and re-start later....(a waste having 85°F in the room)

A possitive not on at least my situation with lighten early is the pack up of the dehumidifiers. Both of those bitches running all the time makes the electric man smile. I can throttle the mark in the basement so it wont get much warmer than 75 upstairs with a 70 degree day. Plus after a few beers watchin the blue lady's dance is mesmerizing. :shots: :eek2:

Lit my stoker day before yesterday. Momma is a small petite lady and gets cold easy. I started lighting the stoker the first day of fall a couple of years ago and it seems a good date to shoot for. I can dial it back all the way to barely burning with a stove temp of 150. Today the low is supposed to be 38 with the same tomorrow. Currently weather.com says it's 60. Living room is 72 with upstairs bedrooms and bath sitting at 70.

Will take the stove temp up to 250 before leaving for church tonight with expectations of the low temp of 38 tonight.

The stove is just sipping coal. Sweet!!

They are calling for a low of 38° tonight. I had the pipe hooked up today and thought about getting a fire going. But I still need to change the hopper gasket and the ash door gasket. I'm really trying to wait until November but looking at the extended forecast it may be mid October.
