And am using a Roku 3 streaming player to watch Netflix, hulu plus (which I plan to cancel), and Amazon streaming. Next step I plan to install an aerial antenna to get all my local channels and long term, I plan to get a stand alone programmable DVR to record the shows we want to see on those local channels. As long as my DSL provider does not cap my usage I should be good. :)
Works good for me. I have an antenna and a used Tivo with lifetime service that works nicely for recording whatever we want. We don't watch a lot of TV, but I do enjoy some of the shows on PBS and a few series on NBC and CBS. I am just catching up to whatever was recorded in June.

I don't use netflix or any of those services and if it wasn't for all the web work I'd drop the cable in a second, DSL is fine for most people. I may only need that speed occasionally but I can't be screwing around when I do. If I had disaster scenario here it wouldn't take too long to get the forum online however the images and other files are another story, It would take half a day with the cabnle and that usually hovers around 30Mbps. DSL @ 2Mbps is going to take 4 days, dial up would only take 160 days.

VOIP ... go with callcentric ... http://www.callcentric.com/ for good quality

If you are cheep ... http://www.voip.ms/ quality sometimes lower than callcentric

go with pay-as-u-go .. pay about 3-5 bucks a month

The phone plans of these packages are worth 5 bucks a month ... so you are paying all that cash for just TV & internet ...

I quit netflix .. saw everything good ... and I was in the 8 bucks/mo for free online and 1 dvd at a time (usually about 6/mo) ... then they raised their rates & adios ... all the good shows were gone like webzeros and their online movies did not keep up .. for 8 bucks/mo I could put up with it but not 16 !

I'm heating with coal .. so I'm cheep cheep cheep

Dumped Comcast for Directv through Costco. Quit Netflix because I have Amazon Prime (99$ a year, plus free Prime shipping and music) better deal IMO. The Costco deal was a big savings to us.

I just can't ditch Fox News, my cable internet is something I will keep but I'm exploring Dish or something similar to reduce my bill. If I could get FN, Discovery and History I'd be happy....and frankly so would the Missus.

I spend more time watching Netflix or reading Kindle downloads on every device in I own.
