Smitty should be able to answer this one, but anyone can chime in. If the odometer & hour meter are broken, can you change oil just by looking at the color? I'm thinking I could have waited another season before changing this...whatcha think? <grin>

If you have to drive a 2 ft. screwdriver through the oil filter to remove it, it is somewhat overdue. If the viscosity is about the same as that of black water, it is somewhat overdue. That was a 1976 Chevy Monte Carlo with the 305, bought off my boss for $90, he used it through the winter then sold it to me. I drove it for 3 years then sold it for $300.

Slightly better than the old Blazer engine, but I'd change it anyway ...
And yeah, that's supposed to be a white filter there ....

You can, but the oil may or may not be "spent".Freddy wrote:Smitty should be able to answer this one, but anyone can chime in. Ohhh MY! LOL You got me Smitty.... I was kind of joking as my oil came from a diesel. They get black in an hour. The hour meter is busted so I kind of go by how much fuel I put through it. Your black oil is sick man! Arghhhhhh!! Your poor Blazer.... at that point I don't think you should be changing it. You should just keep adding until death do you part.SMITTY wrote:Slightly better than the old Blazer engine...

Yeah, that's one of the reasons that engine has been in the trailer for the past 13 months. That, and it burned a quart of 20w-50 every 50 miles .... in WINTER!
When my wife left for work in the morning, you couldn't see in the neighborhood for a half hour.
Here's what the exhaust did to the snow, just running for 2 minutes:
