One thing I'm going to have to do and I'm having a hard time with is a name for it. My current ICD's name is "Sparky 2". Now I need ideas for a name for my pump.

Anyone have any ideas???

The heart pump is a rotary pump. Sorta like a smaller version of a jet engine. After the pump is put in, I won't have a noticeable pulse. It basically bypasses the left side of my heart. The pump will help support the right side of my heart and possibly make it work easier.

This will bump up my status on the transplant list.

Beemer,I have friend/business associate and a cousin of my wife who have both had heart transplants. One was about 7 years ago and the other about 4 years ago. Both guys are doing amazing! They are living very full lives. Hang in there as you get bumped up the transplant list.

I'm pissed.

I was supposed to go home after a family meeting with the doctor, nurses and social worker. The meeting was set for 2:00 and had been set for several days now. 11:00 rolls around and the person from a company called Home Solutions (they send out a nurse to set me up with a portable IV pump) says that the latest they can allow for discharge is 1:00 to follow me home to set me up and train and asks if I can get "my people" here early. Well, at that point, the earliest they can get here is 1:00 which would not account for the meeting and they wouldn't budge. We tried all sorts of ideas but they said no. So I'm here another night.

I asked "how the hell am I supposed to get home?" "We can get you an ambulance to bring you home" was the reply. I asked OK, who is going to pay for it? "well, hmm, good question." Between us, I don't have enough money to take a taxi across town, never mind a two hour ambulance ride.

So end result is I have to stay another night and hope my cousin can bring me home tomorrow. I told the nurse that in order to be able to get discharged by 1:00 Home Solutions has to be here to give me a definite word by 9:00 am to give the person time to get ready to go and account for the 2+ hour ride here.

I don't blame the nurses and other people on the floor. I now realize - after I walked off my frustration - It was just miscommunication.

I'm home now until Sunday when I go back to FARR 3 (heart failure unit) then, the next day I go into surgery. I'll be in intensive care for three days and then back to Farr 3 for a couple of weeks. After that, I'll be going to a rehab facility for a couple of months.

A visiting nurse followed out from Boston and made sure I understand how the infusion pump works and how to care for it. I got home about 1:00 and boy it is great to get home (actually mom's house). and Summer was so happy she had a long story to tell me.

While I'm in SICU I won't have my laptop until I get back to the FARR 3 unit.

I looked it up, nope they no longer produce a car with a rotary engine. Maybe in the future, Mazda has said.

If you are in need of some reading material, pick up "Heart" by Dick Cheney. A lot of what you are going through is in there and it is an excellent, motivating book. My parent's got it for me for Christmas, though my heart issues have not progressed and have stabilized thanks to the awesome docs at the Cleveland Clinic. It still motivated me!

Do not go gently!
