When do you purchase your coal for the year??

PostBy: Berlin On: Tue Oct 09, 2012 1:28 am

I am curious when people on this forum purchase their coal for the year. I have listed months and also given the option to select "purchase in small amounts as needed" if you tend not to buy all or most of your coal at once. If you purchase most of your coal at once and then top up your bin as needed, select the month you generally (or the month this year if it varies from year to year) purchase your large order for the year.

I'm curious about this for a few reasons, but most importantly I'm interested if people on the forum behave like those I know off the forum and generally wait until they're cold before they think about fuel purchases for the season.

*** I apologize, I added new options at a members request and did not realize that it would erase all the previous votes, please vote again and I promise I won't erase them this time! :o

I'll be looking to fill bin in May, but no later then July. It's all about saving a dollar so that's my reason for timeline.

I am the single as needed vote. I'm only 10 minutes from UAE, Blaschack, and Keystone Anthracite. No need to stockpile when they can hold it for me.

Well I had a ton of bagged Blaschak left from last season and I bought a full skid in August. I hope to get another skid this week and I should have more than enough to last for this season.
I'm a little behind this year. I usually have all I need by September. I checked September.

Last year I bought 24 tons planning a 3 year minimum supply. I ordered it in June but it didn't get delivered until September.

Already got 2,760lbs,just need to get one more ton and that should last the winter.Always try to get it in October before it gets hard to get and prices tend to go up.They have closed a lot of the mines in Kentucky, and it's causing the prices to go up.
I might get another ton on Saturday. We'll see what happens.

i get my bulk coal delivered in may, usually 7 or 8 tons depending what i have left from year before. I am gradually getting a surplus stockpile built up to where i should have about 12 ton total here at the house within a year or 2.
I get it early and don't have to think about it when it gets cold. the work is done, just time to relax.

Wow, I'm surprised by this poll. I know not too many people have answered yet but the people on this forum definitely buy much earlier than the people I know locally that use coal. With almost all the people locally (that I know) it seems to be an October through December thing.
