Coal Stove Inserts? Any Suggestions?
Coal stove inserts? While coming to PA next week a buddy of mine wants one. Do they make them the same as a free standing stove? With a hopper and all the gagets? Reading does not seem to have any. They are my first stop. Then on to some others.

- Hot Air Coal Stoker Stove: Harman Magnum
- Coal Size/Type: rice/anthracite
Harman has a coal insert- I looked at it briefly in the local showroom before finding my stoker. It's similar to either a Mark 2 or 3 I think but set up specifically to fit into a fireplace. I also think it had a blower and the BTU rating was up there, but I don't remember much beyond that, since I was actually looking for a freestanding stove at the time. Don't know if anyone makes a free-stander that would fit.

- Hand Fed Coal Boiler: Legacy SF-270
- Hand Fed Coal Stove: Hitzer 503
- Coal Size/Type: Stoker/Bit, Pea or Nut Anthracite
Hitzer makes a 503 and a 983, both inserts the 503 is a gravity feed with a hopper. the 983 is a batch fed stove. Both built like tanks' If you want a stoker, Alaska offers the cast console model that fits into a fireplace and Leisure Line offers the Sidewinder and Hearth models to be used in front of a fireplace. Keystoker may have one too.

Leisure Line and Alaska make hearth models that can be vented into a fireplace , maybe thats worth considering. I was also interested in an insert but found restrictions based on my fireplace dimensions. I bought a LL Hearth and am happy with it.
