Time for a New Computer

Having said that my Mother got a Asus not too long ago and it wasn't that bad.

I got my dad a used computer that came out of an office environment and did a clean install of XP on it...almost three years ago. He has never installed a single program, just checks the weather and sends emails with it - it still runs perfectly.

My computer at work is 8 years old now, just used for account sales, email and this site. But, after reading about the trouble Richard had, I think I'll be sticking with Macs for my home computer(s).

I built this from scratch so problems are to be expected especially considering it was the first time I did it, I'll note I'm not exactly a novice with computer hardware.About the only thing new was mounting the CPU. I paid $1000, similar computer at Best Buy is going to be $1400+. If you wanted to make a comparison to Apple you'd have to compare to the lowest cost Mac Pro, I'm picking that one because the cost of the processor is just little lower that the I5 3.4 processor I have. The Mac is $2500 and truthfully it's really not a fair comparison.

Just for starters on the Mac:
The graphics card is cheaper.
The CPU while a Xeon is slightly cheaper.
The RAM is slower, even their top model doesn't compare.
No SATA3, Only SATA2
No USB3, only USB2 and very limited external ports.


I know people love their Mac's, whatever floats your boat but if you want to look at bang for your buck there is no comparison to a PC especially if you're building it yourself.
