Their is a sign there "all loads must be covered" I don't ,they don't say anything, must be to cover their a*$. they have over loaded for me by a couple hundred pounds, but if your gross vehicle weight is 5400, and you want 8000 pounds of coal + your vehicle weight, you will be way overloaded, it's said the fine is $1 a pound not to mention ,is is safe ? What type of vehicle are you using ? A 4x8 truck bed will hold 1 3/4 - 2 tons level with the sides.

Yesterday, I had the unfortunate experience to see a bad smash up of a pickup truck/trailer combination and a new car at an intersection accident. Devastation.Think crumpled bag. Two cops, fire company, fire police, you get the idea.I was not involved but with all that fresh in my head I would ask you to consider not overloading your equipment or asking anyone else to do it. Springs, brakes and tires don't care one lick about you but your family does.We do too. Mike

As far as I know UAE doesn't care what your GVWR is (at least they don't check it...).

As said above, being that much over is just asking for trouble, leagally and saftey wise. Especially if your unexperienced in hauling. But the choice is yours... Although it's unlikely you'll get pulled over, I would check rate for the fines.

Also, if your GVWR is 5,400 lbs, that is including the weight of your trailer (or truck). So if your trailer weighs 1,400 lbs then your payload is 4,000 lbs. At 4 tons you'd be twice your legal limit and possibly over the trailer's actual limit (bent springs, blown tires, etc...) Just something to consider...

fist let me say.... sorry for not posting more on the truck. is a 83 1 ton long dump that has been highly modified. i am running 19.5 tires and i have up graded the axles out of a ford 550. the power plant is a 12 valve 5.9 liter. pushing way more than it should for power. the frame was custom made. i have tried to get the truck certified to a higher gvw but there are to many firing hoops to jump through i have hauled 15 to 18000 lbs and i didn't even know the trailer was there. they wont or don't want me to get the gvw that i built it for. don't really know why? and there not telling me..... right now the truck is licensed for 15500

once got pulled over by dot and they thought i was a commercial truck. once they found out i was a regular Joe, they said have a nice day. i was hauling 6 ton of stone. and i had the 16000 lbs excavator on the trailer. lets just say if i didn't have the cdl A i would never try anything like this. if they wanted to, they could have gotten me for a but load of fines.

i would like to take the shop truck and get 24 ton. but i really don't need that much at one time.

some day ill go over and get a load, but i decide to have it delivered. wife's call. bins full for now. it was cheaper than me going to get it anyway . the truck costs me about a dollar a mile (if you take in to account the wear and tare, the tires and fuel at 4.25 a gallon.) the truck was built in 2001 when fuel was less than 2 dollars a gallon.

Austin, your example is actually an explanation of GCVWR ... Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating:The GVWR plus the maximum rated towing weight. The trailer has its own GVWR that should not be exceeded.

In your example, if the tow vehicle had a GVWR of 5,400 Lb and the tow capacity was 5,400 Lbs, then the GCVWR = 10,800. It's just and example because it's not likely that the rated tow weight would equal the tow vehicles GVWR.

The vehicle's GVWR is composed of the loaded trailer's tongue weight, (part of the cargo load) if attached, and the weight of the wet vehicle, passengers and cargo.

I called UAE this past saturday (10/13) and asked if a load of coal in the bed of a pickup needed to be covered, or if I needed the registration to my truck for the GVW. The answer to both of these was "No".

I'm not condoning running overloaded, but on the other hand, it's nice to know that if my truck is 100-200 lbs overweight, I won't have to pull off the scale and dump some coal back on the pile.. I'm running a 2500HD Chevy rated to 9200 lbs but only registered to 9000....

hi all ,i can tell you from personal experience that an over loaded truck is no fun to drive.. a few yrs ago i left blashacks breaker at 11,000 lbs , now my f250 is rated fer 8800, empty i was like 6200, bed was full ,even with the top of the sides, lady in scale house asked if i wanted more cause ihad lots of room in the wheel wells yet,i made it home but it was a long slow ride back to valley forge, next week after that i bought a small dump trailer so i can get 2 ton at a clip safely, T.
