I purchased a Hearth about a month ago. It suits my needs as I wanted the stove in the basement and wanted to vent it into a fireplace that really wasnt being used. I was also attracted by the coaltrol stat. I mounted the stat on the first floor of my cape and it holds set point pretty well. Although in the last week its gotten colder { low teens } and it hasnt been keeping up as well. I will soon be opening some old cold air returns from two systems ago and i expect this will improve circulation. I must confess I'm already considering a coal boiler as my house has a baseboard HW system nicely zoned with programable stats . The only problem is an in effiencient gas boiler currently used as back up.
sorry for the ramble. I also looked at an alaskas ' Hearth model that was a little more attractive { sorry Jerry } but the coaltrol sold me . Its almost embaresing iTs so easy to maintain. 5 minutes I had the fire going well, put in the coal , take out the ashes, keep it clean ,stay warm .

Good Luck
