FIRST OFF I MUST SAY THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT'S BEEN HELPING ME WITH MY CRAZY QUESTIONS. WELL HERES ANOTHER.DOES ANYONE HAVE A PICTURE OF THERE HARMON BURNING THE CORRECT WAY? I WOULD LOVE TO SEE A PICTURE OF THE FIRE WHEN IT'S RUNNING . AS I SIT AND STARE AT THE FIRE I WONDER IF THIS THE RIGHT. THE PUSHER SYSTEM WITH THOSE DAMM DOTS IS DRIVING ME NUTS.IT'S BEEN VERY COLD HERE IN UPSTATE NY SO THIS UNIT IS RUNNING ALOT SO I GUESS IT'S A GOOD TIME TO GET IT RIGHT.OK I HAVE IT SET FOR ABOUT TWO DOTS AND THE COAL SEEMS TO BE BURNING THE RIGHT WAY. IT'S TURNING TO ASH ABOUT 1.5 TO AN INCH BEFORE FALLING OFF THE GRATE.DOES THE FIRE BURN IN THE WHOLE BACK OF THE FIRE BOX OR IS IT OR JUST IN THE MIDDLE ? IF I LOOK LEFT TO RIGHT(WIDTH)IT SEEMS TO BE NICE AND RED ALL THE WAY ACROSS. THANKS AGAIN JB

That sounds perfect. The back of the grate (new coal coming up) will not be burning. Mostly the middle where the air vents in the grate are. I'll take a pic when I go home for lunch. We can compare..

Hi all,

I noticed the pix of your coal fire that sits in the moddle of the burn pot. I have a Harmon Mag stoker and my fire from the back to about the middle of the burn pot. It has been like this since I got the stove and havent had any problems. Is there away to make the fire start in the middle. In my stove you cannot see any unburnt coal coming from the back near the fire brick, that is where the fire begins. To me it make since because the pent roof is receiving majority of the flames\heat vs the top of the stove if the flames were to be shooting beyone the pent .

btw, what looks like coal behind the burn (ie, closest to the firebrick in the back is mostly fly ash, with the burn of the pix taken the stove is 400 degrees

IN taking a quick look at the manual...about feed rate, it say low feed the flames look like they are in the back.

Looks like you might need to increase the feed rate just a bit (1/4-1/2 turn at a time) to get it to move closer to the front of the burn plate.

I have the stoker open all the way and 3 min on 15 off for feed rate. I am happy with it but wanted to make sure that having the fire that far back is not a mistake or something

I wouldn't think it would burn back past the combustion holes on the grate. When you do maintenance/cleaning, make sure all the holes and under grate are clean. A lot of fly ash/fines can get stuck in the combustion grate and cause limited air flow.

unless you have an air leak, or if you have a power vent that is pulling air down thru the hopper and possible burn back.

As long as you are not pushing hot coals off the end of the grate and about 1/2-1" of ash at full throttle, you should be good.

jimbo, my fire at idle (now 4 on, 13 off) looked pretty close to yours when I had the blower running constantly, and I've not had any problems with a low fire like that.

I gave up on the dots as a fine-tuner, I just adjust the stroke to not push fire off the grates at a full-power burn, but I'm pushing 2 dots at the moment if that helps. Right now i can go about another 3/4+ turn up, but I'll save that for when it gets really cold out.
I'm going to try to post 2 pics that show the fire when cranking as she's set now, stove surface temp 560-ish. Usually the flames lick up into the pent-roof, once in awhile one reaches out into the firebox. When I opened the door for the second shot, the flames got stirred up, mostly they roll or stream evenly upwards.
