Looks like I need one The used one I installed last year leaked right off the bat. I didn't worry about it because there was no way I was going to get enough time to get it hooked up. So I put a couple pipe plugs in it.
Well, fast forward to today. Pulled it out and rigged up a connection to the house water supply. Sure enough, find a crack in the copper which I soldered up. Dried the coil real good with the torch and hooked it back up to the water supply. There are at least a dozen more pin holes that are weeping barely enough to create a drip. I know this story all too well as my copper house piping is doing much the same and is getting replaced with pex.
So what is the going rate for a new coil for a highboy? And has anyone had any success replacing the finned copper with soft copper tubing of roughly the same length?
