It's times like this that make me wish I had one, even if it was just on standby.

Me, too! My Harman is up and ready to go. We are only forecast to be under 55* one night. If the power goes out I'll have to make a choice - warm house or membership in the "one match club." Ummmm, that's a tough one. :( Take care, Lisa

I've stepped up to a 12 hour shake schedule on my DS from 24 with threats of no power.

My saey is idling right now, hurricane and cold weather, wierd. Folks at work yesterday were like, Oh, I hope I do not loose power, it is going to be cold. I just laughed, That saey needs no electricity. One guy has a stoker, he was pushing me towards buying one for what he called ease of operation. I said what if the power goes out. Well, I had to rub it in a little yesterday. I said, how is that stoker going to tun with no power, he told me where to go. HA!

Not knowing ANYTHING about them, is it possible to manually feed a stoker.

If ya hook up the stoker to the bicycle powered generator you are good ta go....that is if you can get the spousal unit to pedal fast enough! :)

My EFM stoker can be hand-cranked to feed fresh coal into the pot, but that simply allows you to maintain a fire...not get any real heat out of it.

I do have a stoker and no power no heat , but I do have a good old reliable wood stove and a pile of wood . I can stay warm and cook on it at the same time . "Great country America "

You got it! That is the reason I like a simple hand fed stove. I want a simple box with a door. Nothing to break and no electric needed.
